MAFFI museum dedicated

I agree, was a beautiful day with a large group of people and a good turnout of Model A's.

The ceremonies were brief and informative and although the permanent displays are not there, the building is very cool and will be a great resource for people in the long run.

Now that the building is actually there, (I have been there, I know it exists) if you haven't already donated a few bucks towards creating a world class exhibition of the hobby, consider it now. www.maffi.org

To those who have already donated money, thank you! To those people who donated enough money to warrant a special stone on the front of the building THANK YOU! This building and the contents of it will not exist without everyone chipping in.

I didn't take pictures, which is the opposite of my MO, sorry, there were plenty of other people there with cameras documenting the whole process.

Thank you to ALL the volunteers that have worked so hard to bring the Model A museum "ideal" to this stage and to those that have donated money! The building is up BUT we need to continue to donate, as we can, to insure that the museum has an adequate operating budget for many years to come.

Can't really tell without pictures Steve. Anybody have any pictures?

Some pics would be nice for those of us who could not make it.:D

Sorry, guys. I've got so many Gilmore and Model A pictures that I guess I sort of slacked off. I didn't take any that really give the overall grand flavor of the event--there were LOTS of Model A's and folks in period outfits, on a spectacularly nice bluebird day. Here's a few more isolated shots that might help.

There was a professional photographer taking photos of individual cars in front of the building all morning, posed so entire building showed in background. In the afternoon, there was once-in-lifetime opportunity to get your car's picture taken under the New Ford Here banner in the showroom. Here's a shot of friends next in line for outside photo.

Here's a shot of Trudy and the MC laboring to break the ceremonial champagne bottle. It took several whacks.

Here's the official ribbon cutting. You can sort of get an idea of the crowd from the reflection in the entrance way glass.

Here's the wonderful quilt that was raffled off to support the museum, won by some lucky couple :)

Hopefully, some other folks will be able to post some more informative pictures soon.

Where did they put all the bricks with all the names on them? Hopefully not on the ground where one would have to look down at them.

Great looking building...looks like a quick trip back east one of these days...maybe Amtrack.

Yes, the walk up to the front door is "paved" with these bricks as well as the area between the gas pump island and the building. If you look at Steve S' first picture of the building, you can see people to the left by the gas pumps looking at the bricks and people by the main walk of the building looking at the bricks. That is the common practice for the bricks like these, most of the professional sport stadiums in America have these available.

Speaking of which, the bricks are still available to benefit the Model A museum and can be purchased by going to www.maffi.org

When I took that photo of the ribbon cutting, I was standing on the bricks. They pave the walkway up to the entrance. It took me a while to find ours, but the looking down wasn't reallly a problem.

There is another walkway over by the champagne event that is paved with bricks that seemed to be mainly for club donations.

There are also some larger commemoratives in the outer wall on either side of the entrance way, also visible in the ribbon cutting photo. Don't know how much had to be donated to get one of those.

Pluck,

That'll work. Amtrak stops in Kalamazoo, just a couple hours from Chicago.

Might I suggest coinciding with next year's Michigan Model A Roundup, to be hosted by the Grape Country Model A Club. The official grand opening of the MAFFI building will take place that weekend, May 17-19, 2013.

None of the photos yet show what I think was the most beautiful car in the building--a deluxe phaeton. Donated (or lent?) from somewhere in Texas, I understand. Whoever is responsible, I want them to know it was appreciated. It's one of those cars that you feel like it's an honor just to stand beside it (this, from a town sedan guy!).

without a doubt an incredible endeavor.. the day was fantastic and the museum is even better. No MAFFI will fill it and make it great and educational. Funds are still needed to support it and bricks can still be bought!!
Thanks to all that made this happen, It is a lasting Legacy of a great car and a great hobby.
