John Mummert's lists your crank as rare. It is a 292 crank. I don't know what the numbers are for a forged steel crank - perhaps it is one of these. Year wise and coming from a commercial vehicle there is a possibility it is one of these if the number is stamped on the crank.

thanks rick

i posted because it seemed unusual.

it has ONE crescent and NO square notch.

it looks like the top left in the 8 examples.

that says EBU, but crank has EC 43 on it.

here's what Mummert put in Spec's section.

'272 & 292 used EC 3.30" crankshaft'

everything else has been '64 truck 292 so far.

bye.

Sure does seem unusual. I've found Mummert's website to be very reliable. According to him you have a 239 (3.10" stroke) crankshaft, but I think your engine is a 292, plus "EC" should designate a 292 crank (3.30" stroke). I'm confused. Time to measure the stroke I guess.

scicala

rest of motor points to 292.

4 bolt 2 barrel manifold.

late distributor.

block and head casting numbers.

'64 only truck bellhousing.

only other thing i saw on crank is Ford logo,

front counterweight, i think.

anybody know where these 'dot's' are supposed to be?

kinda hard to measure stroke, i'll see, it's all apart now.

i'll give measuring bore's a shot.

i've seen this before where the 'wrong' part is on the vehicle.

so Mummert has done the best job possible.

thanks

All American Boy, When the engine wasn't comepletely apart (heads off but pistons still in), did you happen to notice if the pistons were about .100" below the deck surface of the block ? There is .200" difference in the stroke between a 239 and a 292, so if it was a 239 crank with the 292 rods and pistons, the piston should be about .100" below the block deck with the piston all the way up in the bore. Sal Cicala.

sal

let me 'turn the corner' and

get engine completely apart.

practically nothing left to do just

pickup tube off pan and oil filter adapter out.

i can put crank back in with 2 end caps

and one piston & rod assembly, no rings.

then put motor oil on old bearings, ought to be ok

to rotate it a few times.

this is sort of crankshaft identification.

where are the main cap part #'s?

i see something right across the top of

the cap, but the first couple of characters

are going to be a real chore to read.

AAB I know you like to write entries but your crank by its marking is clearly a 272/292. The fact it came out of a 1960 pickup it should be a 292. It is a no brainer to check what the engine is by the bore. 272 is 3 5/8", 292 is 3 3/4".
I dont mean to offend other posters but Mummerts site specifically mentions your crank is for the engines i listed. John Mummert is the expert in these matters and has a lot of years behind his information.

i'm enjoying the getting there thank you.

noticed the counter weights on the ends

are thicker and the ones in between are thin.

the rod journals are drilled out partway.

it's a relatively light crank.

fordy's

my crank looks like picture on left.

rod journals drilled out about 1".

so that narrows it down to 272 or 292.

about crescent on flange, maybe they

just grabbed whatever crank blanks that were handy.

no big deal.

After working on the line at Ford for thirty years, I learned that parts books are a suggestion. Not a rule.

ole don & race ron

going to look for part #'s on pistons and rods.

that might clinch it.

edit: in Technical part of Ford Y Block.com it says

'272 & 292 used EC crank'.

it's just that single crescent & no square notch that is off.

thanks

thanks.

here's pic of 312 crank with dot on flange.

dots are cast into the notch area.

anybody know where to look on pistons

for part numbers?
