Removing Undercoating from Fenders

I have bought a set of front fenders for my tudor. One fender has had the underside sprayed with undercoating. Will sandblasting remove this? I have tried gasolene and a paint scraper and it seems like a long slow process. I would have thought the gas would have disolved the tar based product with ease. Is there anything that will work better?
Thanks

Removing undercoating is one dirty job. Heat the undercoating with some sort of flame, as you do so it softens and can be scraped of with some sort of scraper or a dull chisel. You may want to do this outside in open air due to the smell.

If it were me, I would check with a place to see if it can be "dipped" to remove all the paint/rust/undercoating all at once. Seems like the $ to get it dipped would be worth it compared to all the time getting that crap off.

I used a propane torch and putty knife to remove undercoating from my friend's 31 fenders. I have since purchased a Milwaukee heat gun and believe it's the way to go.

So it seems that the consensus is heat and a paint scraper. I will investigate the aresol product from eastwood, but I suspect I'll be in the market for a heat gun.

I bought mine off craiglist for only $10. Between craiglist and ebay you should find one fairly cheap.

A napa parts store can get you a spray can of decal remover that should get the stuff off. If not I would try acetone and a scraper. Don't dip them! The stuff the dipper uses gets in the folds of the metal and stays - no paint will stick to it. I wouldn't use flames either. Good luck! Gary

if you are going to blast the fenders once you remove the under coating. I use a torch and heat the metal on the out side of the fender and scrape the under coating off on the underside. all you want to do is soften the uncoating and it will come right off

Yep, I was gonna say heat the outside but I would use a heat gun instead of flame. A good paint stripper will also remove it.
