this car was bought by the guy i got it from in 1949 when he was 18 years old and parked in the mid 50's after he drilled the dropped front axle and unsplit wishbones !!! i just bought it from him and it was moved from the spot it spent the last 60 years . ut some aired up wheels and tires on it and it rolled out of there without issue (after we took it out of gear) . it is home now andi will get working on it shortly . had to give 50% more money for it than i planned on paying but the old timer drove a hard bargain . and of course once i saw it and new it could be bought he had me on his hook floundering around till he finally quit raising the price on me !!

here are pics of it after all of its protective tomb was removed from around it

That's a pretty cool rescue of an old '33 Ford coupe. It doesn't look all that bad for having spent the last 60 years sitting out side in the elements. Maybe you can post more pictures of the inside and under the hood.

The buying price will soon be forgotten as the car is repaired/restored.

Congratulations.

H'wood,
Juice brakes and swapped spindles....tells us more....You are a brave
man !

the guy that bought it in 49 when he was 18 years old decided to start hot rodding it . he bought a dropped axle while on a cross country trip to california on his 1946 indian motorcycle . when he returned he drilled a bunch of holes in it , then mounted it up on the front of the car and drilled the unsplit wishbones to match. he pulled the interior garnish moldings to get ready for a chop . he made a set of wheels wider by using 15" x 8 hoops and welded in early ford wheel centers reversed for a deep dish effect . then he started racing stock cars and the car sat . and when he retired from a pretty colorful stock car racing career in 1966 he must not have had the same interest in this old car cause it continued to sit untouched until i bought it a few weeks ago . he's 81 years old now and his health isn't what it used to be but the dream was still in his eyes and he is looking forward to seeing it pull in his driveway under its own power . i'm going to letter something ,somewhere on the car as a tribute to him and his life of events . i'm honored that he chose to sell it to me at any price and i'm really looking forward to a late 40's early 50's post war style hot rod build . i'm going back after some old flatty speed parts and some NOS 33 34 ford parts . i'll keep ya'll posted as things evolve !!!

What's scary is that someone drove on those tires until they were that worn.

Nice find, I hope you enjoy fixin' 'er up as much as I have with my 33.

33/34 5W's are one of Henrys nicest designs. (3W's are ok, too, I just don't have one of those!)

Mart.

i really wanted a 3 window and when i heard about this car the guy told me he thought it was a 3 wdw . and right up to the day before i got to meet with the actual owner and make a deal i still thought it was a 3 wdw . i was a bit let down by the extra windows but in NY these just aren't available in any where near this condition and the extra windows are starting to grow on me anyway !!!

well i just wanted to throw a couple pics up on here . i am working up plans and getting quotes for a building in my backyard to work on a couple projects i have right now so i haven't done much but i can't not touch it so i just hit it with a flapper wheel on a grinder and knocked a bunch of heavy surface scale **** off it . found exactly where it needs patches and assessed its needs and ordered pretty much all of the stuff to repair the body . i found that the original color on the car was COACH MAROON and it may end up that color again although my heart was set on gloss black for the chassis and body . still have not made it out to get my hands on the flatty parts or the grills he has so i'm unable to post the PO 's info yet !! i grabbed a set of super nice kelsey hayes bent spokes on the hamb with 7.50 x 16 rear and 6.00 x 16 front firestone blackwalls so i mounted them up to get an idea of stance . it has a dropped axle in it from 1949 that the previous owner drilled and mounted up to his unsplit drilled bones and i am going to leave it un split and un channeled so i needed to get a decent amount of rubber rake . i still may go with a smaller diameter front but i really dig the stance .

here are a couple current pics

Will you run fenders or fenderless? What are your brake plans?

No fenders . It's got juice brakes up front now (another upgrade he did in early. 50's)

I am going to juice brake the rear . NO FENDERS , but I will definitely be leaving a hood . Sometimes top and sides and sometimes just one or the other .

Wow what a score. It's amazing what a little cleaning will do. Had the old man done that he would still be uping the price on ya. heh heh he How about some engine compartment & interior shots when you can find the time.
Git er dun

It's hard to believe that's the same car that was in your first post. You got to be a happy camper. Forget the 3W and never look back.

With the zillions of repop '33 - '34 3 W, its a breath of fresh air to see a 5W, and a real one at that. " i was a bit let down by the extra windows " Everyone is always excited about 3W's, most probably because of the $$ value, but now, the 5W's are the thing....in my books anyway. You most certainly did not go wrong in your find, and you most probably will never look back. A most exciting part of the project is to bring back history....what the 'old man' never got to complete. Go do it....Enjoy.
