Hi I am new to model A's and just got a 28-29 std coupe body and I am wondering which doors (other than the obvious choice) will fit. Also I have only a body and the numbers on the tag are non existent is there a way to tell the difference between 28 and 29 or are they identical. Thanks

One clue is a date stamp that very well could be on the front face of the drivers side of the firewall. The it is located on the upper section of the firewall just above the parting flange and may be hidden by rust. It also may be upside down. As I recall the stamp was on most of the firewalls up until late August of 1929. Here is a picture of one as stamped on a '29 oval window coupe. Gar Williams

There were some body assembly differences early in the production of the Model A.

(Std.) Coupe bodies were produced from Start of production (October 1927) through about June or so of 1928. Then Ford went to the Special Coupe body for about a year from that time to about June 1929 when they went back to the (Std.) Coupe body.

The doors on the (Std.) Coupe also fit the Special Coupe and Tudor bodies as they are all interchangeable with each other.

Originally, there were no body "tags" which told the difference between a 1928 or a 1929 on any Model A. You just need to know what to look for as far as an early body or a later body. Hopefully someone will chime in and explain those differences to you.

If you have the original gas tank, as explained above, it may or may not have a date on it. These stamped dates went from about May 1928 through September 1929.

You can go to my website and view Additional Studies...then go to Letters, Numbers and Codes to see where the assembly plant code is located and some other features.

The doors are the same for all '28-29 Coupe models and Tudors. The easiest starting point on dating the body is the left (drivers) side rear corner. Until about April 1929 the rear lamp bracket was mounted to the left end of the rear floor cross sill and you would find three "D" nuts in the body at that location.

The Company really didn't have dated model years back then as we know the practice today, did they? My assumption was that the Company originally imagined the Model "A" would be like the "T", i.e. no new yearly models per se but constant improvements. I understand that market conditions etc. threw a wrench into that concept.

Thank you guys for all the input I will have to check my body for any date stamps, and now I also have a few more avenues to look down for doors that will fit.
