Brake assembly

Finally removed the cab from the frame today so I could remove the center brake assembly. Previous owner converted to juice brakes and I am going back with cable brakes. You can see where they welded an extra bracket to one of the arms. Can I just grind that part off to get back to the almost original arm? Any suggestions?

i have a 36, similar setup, most likely your has worn bushings, i had a new shaft made for 30$, found bushings---- then at Hershey bought a NOS one for 20$

removing the xtra metal shouldn't be a problem --any gouges can be welded up
Lube your cables well--flush the old lube and dirt out, take a gallon freezer baggie or other heavy plastic bag), cut out a corner, put it over the cable, tie it,fill it with oil and work the cable to flush out the grunge---auto trans fluid will clean, then gear oil for lube (grease is thick and sticky)

If you aren't in a rush NOS parts can be found at quite reasonable prices ---I got 2 NOS front drums for 20$ea on E-bay, most of the other parts fron 1$ boxes, if you don't have the "green book" (28-48 parts book) you probably should to identify parts.

Thank you. I have new cables for the front and will probaly buy new rear cables when I get that far. I have the Green Book and have identified the parts. I'll start cleaning the whole thing up in a few days to see how worn the shaft and bushings are. I rebuilt the brake/cluth pedal assembly already and they were worn badly.
