On my early 1928 Tudor sedan the stamp reads CAU167. I didn't see a plant with that specific code and was wondering what it was. I am going to try a crayon rubbing with paper later today, But I am pretty sure that is all that is on there. Any help decoding this would be much appriciated

Justin,

Are you refering to the "Engine Stamp"ed number on the engine number pad OR the coding on the body front cross subrail itself?

Do you know where to find the coding on the body? If not, then go to my website, then go to Additional Studies, then go to Letters, Numbers and Codes and review the data within.

The CAU does not ring a bell with me either.

It is on the engine stamp pad. There is also no date stamp on the firewall of the body. Those were the only two I have looked for so far

Your car may or may not have been built in Canada.

It could be that the previous owner put in a Canadian engine in place of the original one which apparently they did due to the 1930 stamping.

Does your car have the early braking system?

There were no dates on gastanks (suposedly) before May 1928 or after September 1929 HOWEVER some tanks in this time period did not receive a date either.

I know of 3 Model A's in Nova Scotia, Canada that have the CAU**** motor numbers and one of them is my Roadster. A second one is also a Roadster about 2300 numbers after mine. Third is a Town Sedan which is about 700 numbers before mine. All 3 cars are 1930 cars with the original motors. 2 of these cars are from Nova Scotia and mine is from Ontario

All cars have Robertson Screws and are Canadian built cars.

Getting back to the original question, if the guy wants to try & find the cars build origin, look for the body letter & number stamped on the floor metal cross member, below & in front of the drivers seat. Then look at Dave Sturges body & plant info on MAFCA site.,also on Steves site.

thanks steve now i know why my 28 rdst pick up has no stamp on gas tank

My Canadian roadster has a body stamp of 3874, but no letter.

No idea of the assembly plant.

The font on Hoarse Whisperer's subframe looks a lot different than the font that I am used to seeing on cars built in the States. Did all Canadian vehicle body numbers have the same font?

No idea if assembly plants were given strict guidelines on type face to be used in body stamps.

It appears that the "F" on mothy's body stamp would indicate an Ontario assembly plant?

Yes that's correct :- East Windsor (Walkerville), Ontario
I think I read somewhere that the F indicated Foreign (as in foreign build relative to USA)

Here is the assembly stamp on my Canadian Tudor. I now believe it is the letter used by Ontario, E. Windsor factory [ 'Ford City' Ontario] & not the US 'Fordson' plant . Many late Canadian Model T's have this letter stamp on the firewall, so it appears both Canada & US used the 'F' letter stamp. Nearly all Model A's in New Zealand have these Ontario stamps & even the 3W fordors [ Murray] have a Ford Ontario stamp of 3F & 5F ; they were not built by Murray in US. ; the latest, from Down Under.!
