Hi everyone, im a new to model a/aa fords and i thought i would get your guys opinion on my truck. Sooo its titled as a 29 and the engine serial number confirmsthat. For what i im unsure about it has a lefthand brake, no seprate E-brake system and has red steering wheel which i beleave is signs of a AR?? The rear has holes for the seprate e brake but looks to be never used and there are no extra holes in the backing plate. Also i looked at my cab for a date and got 2 20 23. The transmission is a 3 speed non multi disk clutch and has holes in it for a normal e brake handle. I have looked over the truck quite a bit and every thing looks original. and I thought i would add a pic of the trans that i just got done rebuilding :D. If u need any more pics or info just let me know!! Help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks Colin

The commercial chassis often carried parts/components that had been superceded on the car chassis.There is no such thing as an AR Model , but later trucks could have had the early brake system ; red steering wheel was current into early '29. The tank date is not so clear, but I take it to be Dec. 20, 1928? If so, it probably was sold new in early '29

Mark, it has a worm gear rear end if thats what u were getting at...
Also the distributor body is red like the steering wheel, i have never seen this before?

Feb 28 would be correct for the left hand E brake but the ****** would be incorrect and should have a multi-disk clutch. I would be interested in seeing the rear of the motor where the throttle bolts on and the top ears of the ****** bolt. The worm rear is also correct for early 28. Is there a serial number stamped on the frame?

In looking at the picture with the date stamped into the gas tank...is that a "1" I see before the "2" making it a December 20, 1928 date as Tudortomnz says also?

And yes, what is the engine number on the chassis?

Well, I missed the 1 it is so light. That would make it a Dec. tank and too late for the left hand brake, right?

What is the serial number on the motor? That will tell if the motor is early enough in 29 to be the correct one for this truck. Also, is it a AA number?

the motor can easily be swapped out after 80 years
the body is off the frame
so what is the number stamped on the frame?

According to the JS the left hand e-brake handle was used up until early 29 in some cases with commercial vehicles. This would not be the only late 28 -early 29 I have seen that still had it. Rod

Ok i found the engine number on the frame and it matches the engine. Also when i got the truck it was complete, the body was bolted to the frame with the correct type bolts.

Also in the pic of the engine number on the frame is a 6 digit number not 5, the last two numbers are stamped on top of each other. Who ever was stamping stuff at ford wasnt doing a good job :P

AA82018 would be a April 11, 1928 stamping;

AA8201XX would be a January 3, 1929 stamping;

The AA8201XX would more or less coincide with the gas tank date of 12/20/28.

NOW...can you tell us the assembly code, if any, on the body?

Go to my website and review Letters, Numbers and Codes in the Additional Studies section to find out where to look and the codes.

From the casting, on the back of the block, it's not an early block..

That particular feature went from Mid November 1927 through January 30-31, 1929 with the two protruding bosses on the throttle assembly connection area. After that, the area was completly flat as in the begining of production with the very early blocks up to Mid November 1927.

If the numbers match, I don't see how both could be mis-stamped. You should be able to get a good reading from one or the other.
