National Meet about over tonight

Man thats amazing 16 hrs. He must have been doing at least 70 mph and thats not allowing for gas and pit stops and eats.Yes many cars were being pulled over. took me 2 days to get home. A most enjoyable meet Ga. put on. ken ct.

Yes Charles I have the cousin in Edom. Maybe we are talking about two different places as you spelled yours with an "a".

Stop to eat??????????? Maybe a 10-15 minute stop. Wanted that day off before work.

Left the hotel at 4:15 am and was in Auburn Ma at 8:45pm. Roughly 960 miles. 49 ran great. I81 was loaded with cops. Lots of cars getting pulled over. Glad you're all home safe.

Frank, you keep pushin' that poor old flathead V-8 like you 'stole it', before you know it, you might need to do another rebuild on that baby :) or maybe even think about dropping a sbc in there ;) LOL :D

That was millage on my Dearborn 34 2nd Emeritus and no problems.:)

That's a good feeling when you have enough confidence in one of these old cars to jump in and drive that far. The longest trip I have taken in my '35 fordor so far has been ~ 1400-1500 miles. Next June may be it's ultimate endurance run, with me at the wheel, from Gettysburg, PA to Lake Tahoe, Nevada and back. I need to spend a lot of time on this car checking and double checking everything before I make a final commitment to do that run.

John,
The funny part is I never felt like I was pushing it. The overdrive makes a big difference. I am not sure what can be done to prepare for the cross country run. Except a good supply of spare parts. I figure the worse that happens is if the car quits completely have it shipped home and rent a car. The only thing worse than that is having to live with the fact that I lacked the balls to try it.

When I drove my '50 to St George, I said the worst thing that could happen was for it to leave us in the desert and it never did that, it left me in Abilene, Ks. We parked it at a club members house, rented a car and came home and got the F-150 and the trailer and went back and hauled it home. After a rebuild on the engine, it has been to Auburn and Hiawassee (over 4000 miles)and hasn't used a quart of oil or any water yet. It's due for an oil change and ready for a trip west.

Frank,

Are you planning on Tahoe? I know there is a group going from Pennsylvania, but I was thinking if I was going to try and drive the Lincoln highway....... I would want to do the whole thing. Times square to San Francisco. For the cars starting from Mass we wouldn't be too far out of our way. OF course I would probably run in around 5 am or something to avoid traffic. Set someone up with a camera on the sidewalk then get the hell out.

Jim it is about 200 miles to gettysburg so that would be a day driving. I know the group is planning on doing the Lincoln Highway but I am not sure how much they can cover. If you start in NYC you would need to reach the west coast to do the whole thing so add some more time to that. We had a somewhat informal meeting and it seems the hardest part is editing the stops to do the trip in a time frame that fits the schedules of most of the members.

Jim, I am planning on driving, but I might just join the tour at the western end for the last day or two. I can't spend as many days as the tour will take.

What tour is that? Sounds interesting. It going to very hot out there. My truck has AIR CONDTION that makes the trip a bit better.:D
