This is my first post, I bought a 4 door 31 yesterday and don't know anything about Model As. I've owned a lot of other old cars over the years but this is my forst Model A. I'm 65 and thinking this is going to be fun. It hasn't run for a couple of years but seems to be a nice driver quality car that I can hopefully get going with just a little work. The previous owner (nice 78 years young guy) had started to do some repairs and there are a few wires hanging here and there I probably need to figure out where they go (meaning I will ask here) and he relocated the battery to under the hood. I hopefully attached a couple of photos of my "new" car. I don't know if it's a standard or deluxe or ? so if someone could tell me i'd appreciate it. Happy to be here, Irvan

fantastic and this is the place to be, start by getting the Les Andrews Books to help you.
Looks like you have a 1930 Town Sedan by the pics...
Can you send more images please...good luck to you

Welcome......Nice Looking car............Have you joined either National Club yet? A local group would be helpful also. What part of the country are you in? I'm not familiar with the four door models so someone else will chime in and help with ID'ing whether Deluxe or Standard. This is the first one I've seen with the tire hanging off the trunk. Usually they would be behind the trunk. I can see this would be easier to get to the tire if you have a flat. How about more pictures?

Mark, I am not into the details of the '31 4 door sedan. I definitely like the late '31 with the slant window but have never owned one. My '32 4 door comes close. What makes you identify it as a '30 instead of an early '31 with a sun visor? The radiator shell (which may have been replaced) looks like a '31. I can see what looks like a split apron over the running board which would point to it being a '30.

It appears that it has "split" running board aprons which would indicate it was built prior to October 1930. The title would generally say 1931 if it didn't originally sell until then.

It is a Murray built body (supplied to Ford) and appears to be a Town Sedan although it could be a Standard Fordor with cowl lamps added in later years. I'm betting it's a true Town Sedan.

a couple more photos

a couple more photos

Irvan,

You might want to add your general location to your profile (and include it in the body of any post where the information is relevant). That enables people to make comments that are specific to where you live. An example might be if you live in Michigan I would suggest looking around for a top for the heater manifold especially since the hole is already cut in the firewall. If you live in Southern California, forget about the heater. This information also allows people to recommend local swap meets, shows, suppliers, mechanics and clubs. I like the car.

Looks like a very nice driver to me. If it hasn't been cranked in a while there is a procedure whihc incoludes fresh oil, etc. which should be followed. Just ask on the message board and you'll get the full protocal. Congratulations and welcome to a wonderful hobby.

Nice looking car. Welcome to the Barn. Just looking at the interior picture, and I am not an expert on this type of thing, but it looks like the clutch may need a bit of adjustment. Again as mentioned above, get the Les Andrews book and it will tell you a lot of things about your car.

You are right this is going to be fun.

I have two questions, does it have an arm rest in the back seat and where is the dome light located and what shape is it?

it does have an armrest in the middle of the backseat and an armrest on each side, i know the seats were redone in probably the 70s or early 80s so not sure how correct material is. It has a dome light that is right above the back of the front seat, it's round. I apprciate all the responsed and help.

Welcome to the board Irvan. If it is a Townsedan, then think about joining the 'townsedan club'. They will have more body specific information for you.

Mike

Irvan you just hit enter before I did. It looks like a delux, unless the dome light has been moved.

Welcome aboard I purchased my 31 coupe a few months and have learned a lot here. Repair manuals are important but a lot can be learned just by reading the old post here. Best to use the search option with one word and a wealth of information will appear.

With the round dome light I don't believe it's a Town Sedan. It is my understanding that the Town Sedans had the oval light over the rear seat.

I second AoK`S suggestion . I have had my 31SW for six months . I stumbled up on this forum by accident.Unbelievable amount of information on this forum. I started at the oldest post ( # 501 ) and read back to the newest post . Have learned more than I can remember about a model " A" .Nice looking car . Welcome to the forum .
