My Dad asked me just yesterday if I knew whether or not Will got his truck finished in time for Oshkosh. I guess that answers it! Congrats to all the winners!

There were a lot of very nice cars and trucks in fine point this year. Will's Panel Delivery was incredible. Bob Anderson's Deluxe Phaeton was also outrageous. Those two new Henry winners and the former Henry winners: Edstrom's 400A and Gary Johnson's Slant Windshield Cabriolet were truly the class of this competition. There was a 'beautiful '31 Deluxe Coupe that just missed out on a Henry. A car that just was a kick to look at was a '29 Canadian Sport Roadster. It's red and black body, that was topped off by nickeled folding stanchions and a gray whipcord top was just striking.

Congratulations to all the winners! A very special thanks to the folks who put on a fine meet.

The Model A that Hunter refers to is a wonderfully restored 1929 Special Coupe. It is a one man restoration, along the lines of Gary Karr, Dave Lopes, Will Cronkite and others who did most of the work themselves. Again it proves that one can produce a top restored "A" in their own garage. My hat is off to all who follow in their footsteps.

I don't think Hunter would mind if I posted a couple of pictures of his car I took at the MARC meet. I took the pictures at the photo shoot for the Model A News. Hunter has an excellent 29 special coupe. He did a fine job of restoring the car and did almost all of the work himself. Congratulations on restoration and the high points score he received.

There has never been a 500 point car in fine point judging. Over in touring there may have been. They are judged to a different standard..

Quick update....checked the points and info that Maron posted...just a few corrections.
The woody that got 465 points was a 1931 woody.
Hunter's 1929 special coupe got 466 points and MOE....not on maron's list.
Bob Anderson's A that got the Henry and a Masters was a 1930 Phaeton, not a coupe.
And Will's 1931 AA Dumpt truck got the Henry, masters, and a MOE.

Total of 19 fine point cars that got through the start and idle and got judged.

Don't have the touring class list, but I think I took about 40 photos of them, and four got 500 points.

Illinois region did great....MOE on fire truck that got done late sunday afternoon before we headed out to meet, and krenger's 1930 phaeton that got a MOE...it got done last Saturday night. Wiggins station wagon got a MOE, and Bob Murphy's special coupe got 476 points and just missed getting a Henry. All in all...great model A's. We have 8 covers from these 19 cars so far, and 2 for touring class. So the model a news will have some really great up front and close up photos in the coming year.

If joe remembers to leave his keys in the fire truck, maybe he will get more points this coming week. If any of you are going to Marquette this week, ken is taking the fire truck and krenger's phaeton there for judging.

Tour Class is indeed a different breed.
We noticed that some 500 point cars had whitewall tires- seems to me that should be an automatic point deduction unless they are double-sided whitewalls.

WRONG WRONG.....NOT a fair statement at all, They are the same breed, they are in this hobby because of the love of the Model A Ford, If you have read the touring class book you would know that is permitted and acceptable, These are DRIVEN CARS!! NOT show cars and there is always a criticism on these cars that is our of line and wrong. Appreciate and respect what others do and choose to do and honor each one for their award and dedication.

j.m.h.o as someone who had a 500 point touring class car and worked hard on it!

I see your point Mark (and likely Chris does too) however many are of the personal opinion that the T/C car's point scoring is maybe what needs to be changed to avoid this type of confusion.

Not taking away anything away from a T/C car but IMHO it would seem the highest point car in that class should be a maximum of 400 points where those points cannot be confused with the 500 points available in F/P. With MARC of Excellence in F/P being 400 points or greater, it is easy to confuse the two classes and is often times done when folks are speaking how a particular vehicle scored in judging. I think most would agree that generally speaking a 400 point car in T/C is not equal to the quality of 400 points in F/P.

I would think that the quality of the car could be the same, but not the originality.

I see your point but in my reference, the word "quality" really does not have the same meaning as 'craftsmanship'. In my mind, Quality encompasses the entire vehicle both in authenticity and originality.

Brent I cannot agree with you more!!! 1000% there MUST be a differential here....or go 100 points in Touring.. I think it needs to be far different as i know many persons are using the number to help sell cars and that is very unfair.. i know myself it caused a big problem when i got rid of my tudor after stating a 500 point touring class marc of excellence, the new owner came back to me 24 hours after he had it home and said there was NO WAY this was a 500 point perfect car with repos parts.. When i tried to explain and show email examples BEFORE we made the deal he came back to me and said 500 is 500... So i cannot agree with that more. It should be changed and the name MARC of Ex..vs. Touring Class MARC of Ex is just not enough. J.M.H.O.:)
