Memorial Day

Hey all nam vets it sucked . I think a lot of us lost "Buds" but you have to go on. It really, really sucks, but you halve to move on. RIP brothers.
What is it that sucks? The fact that we have a lot of pride in what we did for our country? The fact we didn't run and hide when we were called? That we didn't immediately look for a deferment to avoid having to serve with our brothers and sister? That we died for your right to tell us what we did sucks? That some of us came home different than we left? That our mothers faced everyday praying for sons they were proud of? Do I have to go on? What sucks?

Thanks to ALL the heros that served so we could still be free. I don't care if you were in the Civil war WWII or peace time in my book You are a HERO. Let's remember though the WWII Vets are getting fewer and fewer so if you know one thank him again you might not have that chance much longer. I had a chance not long ago to stop and change a tire for a Hero that was on Normandy on D day and I couldn't have been more honered.

Garrisonm89 If I have to explain it to you than I will. It "SUCKS" Knowing that some of our friends died at a very young age fighting a ******* war that we should have never been involved in. And today it's business as usual. They never had a chance at life like you or me. There not on ford barn or any other barn. Go to D.C. and visit the wall. Go to Arlington to the tomb of the unknowns. Hey Garrisonm89 "IT SUCKS"

I was not there but feel the same way Sonny! Thanks for your input. U.S.M.C. 1954-1959.

P.S. I talked with the a USAF loadmaster who was on the first C5 out of Travis AFB, he told me face to face the first MASH unit went to South East Asia in 1959! My gratitude goes to all who served there!

Mark

And I stood beside them in Viet Nam and for you to tell me it was a "******* war that we should have never been involved in" is ********. I don't give a damn who you are or who your fighting if your country calls then you go and you should be there to defend your country. What sucks is assholes like you that tell me I went to a fight a war that I shouldn't have been involved in. I stood beside my brothers at Khe Sanh and Hue, Phu Bai and LZ Stud. I watched them die. Our country called us and we served because we were suppose to be there. Every once in a while my best friend goes to the VA in Minneapolis and has shrapnel pulled from his stump because his leg was blown off. My brother talks about being on Hill 180 North of Khe Sanh. That's where he was hit. Both of those guys signed up because they felt it was important to go when their country called. I waited until I was drafted before I went but I didn't hide and I'm proud of what I did in Viet Nam. So don't tell me we shouldn't have been there. We had no control of the political situation at the time and we had nothing to do with what JFK and LBJ thought or did. Maybe they shouldn't have put us there but they thought it was important to fight against the spread of communism Just like FDR thought it was important to fight against the Nazis. I think the best thing you can do is keep telling Viet Nam vets we shouldn't have been fighting for our country. You wouldn't believe how much I wish you would stand in front of me and spout that ********.

Garrisonm89 I spent 6 months as a patient in the Naval hospital in 68, so I think I'm quallified to speak. It's assholes like you that thinks what ever the government says to do, you do. While in the hospital when ever your able bodied they would find something for you to do. My job was to go to the "A ramp" or amputee ramp to help out moving patients missing limbs. Some one or two or three or even four. The psyche ward was always filled to capacity. I used to have your "Gung Ho" attitude until I became educated. Would you fire on your own people like the Syrians if the government told you so? Sounds like it. Well ******* in closing if your ever passing through Ohio, please look me up. P.S. That ******* war!

Guys I wasn't there. But as an AMERICAN I thank ALL our soldiers for serving because whatever the politics behind the war YOU stepped up and fought for AMERICA. So that makes YOU a HERO in my book.

God Bless all our veterans! U.S. Army 1958 thru 1961. My two sons served in combat in Afganistan. God bless America.

My thanks to all vets past and present. you guys have already said everything that can be said. so salut evertone. 2nd. amered div. europe

Your wrong. I was proud to do what my govt asked me to do. I'm proud that I'm a Viet Nam veteran. I spent time in those hospitals. I watched and saw the same thing you did. No I wouldn't fire on my own people. Why would you even say something like that? I'm very aware of people that lost limbs and lives. I've helped vets, one of them who's a proud Viet Nam vet through some pretty tough times. I was with a boyhood friend within minutes after he lost his leg while on patrol east of Chu Lai. Eight people were blown to ****. He lost his leg. The guy behind him is permanently blinded. The guy in front of him was killed immediately. I used to sit and wonder what was better, go out in the bush and be ambushed or stay at the LZ and risk being hit by a mortar or rocket. I still don't get much more than 3 hours sleep at night because I'm wound too damn tight from that god damn war. I've been married twice but haven't been able to make the marriages work. I spent my time smoking and drinking and kicking the **** out of people simply because I didn't like them for one reason or another. I was destroying myself until I finally found out all the **** in the world wouldn't make it go away. I'm full of tumors and I've got two children that can't undo their disabilities from that **** our own government sprayed on us at night. I slept in the mud, I was cold in the rain, my feet rotted because there weren't any dry socks, some days I spent fighting dysentary. I went over there at 165 lbs. 6 months later I weighed 137 lbs. When we were at Khe Sanh there wasn't any re-supply so we had to steal clothes and c-rations. In one firefight I drug my friend out of the **** after his hand was blown off. Every once in a while that one wakes me up. It was hot, it was wet, and it was miserable. And through it all I wanted to go home and when I got home I wanted to be somewhere else. But I never hated my government. I never held it against them. And when they asked, I served. Life was and is and always will be a *****. All the anti-depressants, anti-anxiety drugs and sleep medicine won't fix that. Going through life hating something you had no control over doesn't change anything. I'm not so naive as to believe the government doesn't make mistakes. Hell that ************** that's in the whitehouse now is the worst piece of **** we've ever had as a president. And I voted to keep him out but there were too many stupid people that thought he was the right "man" for the job. So I guess in closing I figure being bitter isn't going to change anything. You can't change what's happened. I'm done looking for someone to blame. God bless All our combat veterans. Those that are gone and those that have to go on. And God bless you for being there for the vets when they needed you. And if you served in that ******* war, thank you for making a sacrifice for your country.

There are no winners when it comes to war ,both sides loose .Lets not forget our brothers and sisters who gave it all they had ,all gave some, some gave all .Nam was a bad place to be,just as are all the other places where lifes are lost ,no matter which side and lifes are changed forever .The real heros are the one who never made it back ,just my humble opinion .I salute each and everyone of you ,living or not living .God bless you all

I fortunatly was drafted in peacetime & never saw action (1956-58) But my boy's have. The one who said no one wins in war was absolutely correct. Did you ever wonder if the persons who decide to go to war had to go to the front line & fight first it might end wars? I recently had to take my boy to the veterans hospital in Ann Arbor & have seen some of the casualties of war. I feel truly blessed after seeing some of them.
Gary.
