Help identify differential

I am helping out a friend of mine with his 1950 Ford 1/2 Ton pickup.
The ring and pinion is bad, and I am trying to find out what model of rear this is so we can start looking for a new ring and pinion.
I believe this is the original differential that came with the truck.
Speedway Motors website shows them listed as 8 inch 8 1/2 and so on.
What do I need to look for(by what name) and where are some places to start looking for one of these?
I found some info on line but I was not sure if it is correct , it looks like a Dana 44 8.5, but before I start ordering parts we want to be sure!
Hope some one can help.
Thank You in advance............ Ron in AZ

If it is the original Ford Diff. the ring & pinion will have Ford part numbers on them. Try Joblot or Baxter Ford or Stacy Brown, ask for the ratio you want. bearings are availble from Kaman or others. there are other F1 suppliers also.

Dana 41 or 44. Look for one of those numbers in the web.

EDIT: I see 44 so it's a 1950 dana 44.

Its a dana 44 rear end same as a jag ,later jeep. Parts are easy to find at pick a part. Take your rear housing cover with you an match it up

Been looking online and nothing matches up to this .
I took the cover off and it is a 3.91 and it says Salisbury 18445 pc130 on the ring gear.
Found out it is a dana 44 with 10 bolt ring gear. But the best I can mesure(gears are still in housing) is 8 1/2 inches
Everything I see online has around 30 or more splines and this one has only 10 .
I will start making calls in the morning.
Mabe we will have to change the front yoke and use a later R/P...?
Thanks Ron

Most early differentials had lower spline counts as the horsepower available wasn't going to twist them to0 easily. Enter the mid-50s and intothe 60s with the horsepower race and you see the spline count rising=stronger.

Check with Chuck Mantiglia in Connecticut. He is a man with much knowledge and parts for the 48-52 Fords. He has won Dearborn awards with his pickups and ones done for customers. Google Chucks Trucks LLC. Great guy!!
