41 ford front sway bar mount

I have a 41 ford business coupe and the front sway bar mounts are pretty much shot. I can find the bushings and the swivel mounts. My issue is the studs that go through the perch bolts that the swivels mount to. They are all floppy and loose. Can those be replaced? I can't find a part number anywhere. Or is there something that works for that application? Looks almost like a shackle bolt or something. I haven't tore it all down yet to see whats whats exactly. I wanted to have all the parts before I rip it apart. Thanks

Anyone know how to rebuild a 41 ford swaybar setup?

Post photos of what you have as I think some 41 Fords were equipped with 1940 sway bars. There is a difference. The 40 is shown below. If it is the same as this one, what parts do you need?

I am currently in a rebuild on my sway bar. The stud you referred to is tricky. I was told by the guys at "The early ford shop in san dimas, ca" that the best thing to do is measure it. I did and the only one that carries the stud is Macs part number 51a-5464. The sizing is tricky. Unfortunately there is no easy answer here. Also the only one with the swivels part 3534 is Macs. Everyone else is out. As soon as I get my stuff I will revisit this thread and post my findings if you want.

1940, thats the setup I have. The bar mounts to the swivel that mounts to the perch bolts. I'm looking for the stud the swivels mount to. There is no PN for this stud on any of those diagrams that I could find.

40fordpu, that is the information i was looking for. Please post your findings when you get your stuff.

Thank you very much guys.

The swivel on part #3534 comes as one unit. So in order to get the swivel you have to buy the entire part # 3534 as it does not separate.

If you are going to own an old car you need to have the Green Ford Parts Book as a reference. It doesnt help all the time but it sure does eliminate questions. In this case page 96 outlines all the parts for the sway bar. Your issue is that the bushing in the perch pin is worn out. You either purchase new perch pins or replace the bushing.

To replace the defective part you will need to get two 2" x 3/4" spring shackle bushings and press the old ones out and the new bushing in. This will have to be done using a small jobber press, you can not do it by hitting them with a hammer.

If you need bushing I have them.

Thanks Dick. How difficult is it to remove the perch pins?

Thanks for the offer hotrodfreak but I have everything, just need to replace those bushings.

In either case not an easy task. Depending upon how rusted up the axle and perch are it may be easier to install the bushing.

I totally disagree with this. Yes you do need literature but this site is intended for this exact question. Also, the green bible does not show the correct number for the pin needed. This thread has been posted before...if you had the answer you could chimed in long ago.

Thanks for all the help guys. Looks like I have some serious work ahead to remove old parts. I'm sure it will be worth it with improved handling and less clunking.
