removed threads

I have noticed a few threads that were started that I had responded on have dissapeared. The latest one was on barners dogs. I know there is a continuing thread of them on the H.A.M.B. and that is good. I also know the response back if I get one, will probably be Dogs have nothing to do with our cars. Stupid jokes that have nothing to do with are cars are OK. What gives? Double standards? I am not ranting, just curious.

I would like to see the Moderators 'voice' in action. A simple (brief) note to say "This thread has been deleted/moved because..."

In this way we all learn what the requirements and the limits are, also this gives us a limited opportunity to engage with and put our view to the moderator.

Currently the situation appears high-handed and absolute, with no discourse allowed or right of reply. To my way of thinking this is unfair, sure we don't pay to come here, and when we do we mostly abide by the rules, however I ask this; what would Fordbarn or The Hamb be without us the membership.

I don't think it's too much to ask for a little respect and consideration, not to mention manners.

Sometimes those threads are reported by fellow Barn members who disapprove of a post for whatever reason and I believe the monitoring police force just deletes rather than takes time to use their own judgment/discretion.
As much as I appreciate having this sit available, it does seem to be managed like a stepchild to the other websites in the Atomic Industries Group.
Example: There have been several requests for a vendors listing here. I had even sent pm and email requests about this to management here and received responses saying it was in the works...trust me...just have patience. That promise was made over a year ago and it appears that it will now never happen. It was later suggested that if i want to see a vendors listing I should join the HAMB and read theirs.
This site may never have a high priority in the Atomic Industries organizational scheme but again I am sure glad it's here and available to all of us Early Ford V8 enthusiasts
'PS....Uncle Buck... after seeing the "dogs of fordbarn" post I was planning to do one on the "Cats of Fordbarn" LOL :) but it now appears as though that would have just been a waste of time and probably quickly deleted anyway

I am aware of that thread and looked at it before starting this thread. My question kind of was geared at if the mods can get uptight about anything not involving Fords, why is it that Stupid jokes that have nothing to do with are cars are OK. I enjoy this sight far more than the H.A.M.B. because of its narrow window being on Ford topic and understand if the modifications are way o/t or the vehicles are o/t , but we all talk about our cars and lives in a family friendly environment here, unlike the brutal posts you can sometimes get over on the H.A.M.B., and that is what keeps alot of us here.

Yeah Moderator

Why was the Ford Barn Dogs thread removed and the Jokes thread gets to stay? What is the deal? Sounds like a double standard to me too. Could you explain?

Respectfully I must disagree, the topic you are referring to deals with our cars. I simply ask; are we not more than just our cars? Do we not have humour in our lives which we, like all human beings would like to express and share with our fellows? Are not our interests and our lives enriched and broadend by wanting to reveal and share more of our lives with fellows we already have much in common with? Are we not of an age when the decency of shared fellowship says more about us than what could ever divide us?
So why not let the personal stuff of our lives have a place here?

On the link above I rather like Old Ron's comment, he's got it in a nutshell.

Other questions now raises their heads:
What is the purpose of Fordbarn?
Should it be a dry, information only site?
Should it allow members to express their personalities and lives?
And, who gets to decide?

The Original Jokes thread was DELETED.

Only after MANY members showed their dismay at it being Deleted,
are the joke threads, for now, going again.

I enjoy the FordBarn for a multitude of reasons:) even though I may not agree or have any interest with the subject matter of some post;:p so I just skip over them. However, if you are looking for a more "friendly, not so much tech info only" forum, I suggest that you visit the ChevyBarn.com and click on the Non-Chevy Forum. You'll find a lot of the same bunch that post here over there as well It's just a different atmosphere with less emphasis on keeping all subject matter Flathead related and the ability to express yourself beyond your automotive interest is welcomed. After all, variety is the spice of life.

Yep, you are right. I went over and read the new joke thread just a little bit ago. Nothing against jokes, just think it was a little heavy handed to deep six the dog thread, which was most likely not offensive to any person.

Drama is what usually closes threads. Causing it or provoking it.

The fordbarn is a different animal. So the some threads might not fly here.

if your a hamber then you might be familiar with this guy! It might be apt.

I'm neutral in this debate, but something the dog/pet folks might consider doing would be to create a social group? Easy to do, and it can serve to take the non-tech stuff off the main board.

Not sure if the mods would approve (I'm thinking they would?). Maybe since the social groups can specify the topic(s) or hobbies, etc, thereby attracting other members with similar interests.

Just a thought. . .

On the old Fordbarn we had threads that talked about our pets and some of these posts had pictures of our pets sitting in, under, around, or just near our old cars/trucks and even some FH powered military Tanks :). It was a fun thread to see and read. Just a little bit of good natured humor, IMHO, that seemed to be in keeping with the intent of the rules because the posts also included pictures of our vehicles. BUT, then the old Fordbarn is history and we now have a new Fordbarn with a new owner......Sooooo, I'm guessing that he or the Mods felt having pictures of dogs was inappropriate or they may have felt there is just too much associated drama involved in showing pictures of our cars and pets together :D. Now, would this type of post be allowed on the H.A.M.B.

OK. Here's the test. I am reposting on this thread the picture of my Chihuahua sleeping on the package shelf of my '47 Fordor during our Route 66 trip. I'm adding one of him in a parade and at our first car show. See if these pictures shut this thread down or yank it. Here goes.

Better still, I'm starting a new thread called Pets with our Fords so we can share our pets but with our Fords. We'll see how that goes.

I'm very fortunate that I'm a Metal Shaper so I have my hands on both Stockers and Customs. I toggle back and forth between here and the Hamb and try hard to keep the topic in the right place. There is a lot of things that cross over and I hope I give as much as I get out of these forums. I don't really care if I get a custom vehicle question here or if it pertains to an original vehicle. And same on the Hamb? I mean really, come on? This place isn't really all about ME! :D I think My sig line says it all!

Oh and a pic of the new roll pan I built for one of my model A's that use to be original and my helper LEXUS.

I have noticed that those in charge of moderating this site do have a tendency to not let anyone know why threads are closed or deleted. Seems like this has only begun recently. Over on the HAMB some have been closed without any reason also. Perhaps the moderators are having some personal problems and are being curt without realizing it.
