Just was a little down. Went an showed my old early 30 at a show. it is just a 45B coupe, still in mostly original form, an old looking. I rolled into the show early feeling good. As time went by, all these great looking cars start filling up the lot. There was one 31 that was restored that was there. a hand full of other "A's", but they were chopped an hot roded. at the end of the day when the trophys were handed out, I saw what people liked to see in old cars. Kinda like a sparkly bass boat to a red neck . LOL:D Was sad that a car in mostly original form dont win the publics vote. :(
The wife cheered me up by saying " she holds her head up taken you down the road, you should do the same". this did help brighten my day as I drove off. :)

Is it the coupe in your avatar? Good Lord, man, it's beautiful. I'd drive that with pride anywhere!

I had been going to shows for 15 years before I got a blue ribbon, my car was mostly correct, but didn't have any shiny trinkets, now that it is a 40 year old restoration it gets a lot more compliments----it's "original" again.

That is precisely why I have my Model A for me and no one else, and don't care about car shows. I have a Model A to enjoy and drive, while others treat them as full scale models. Nothing wrong with that at all, to each his own.

Never win a trophy, really don't care if I ever do. I go to the shows for me and to let others see what I like to do with my time. The only thing that I like to get from the show is the "commerative dash plaque" so I can stick it to the side of the cabinet in the garage.

Which show was that T at? It almost looks like the Sloan Auto Fair, or Frankenmuth Auto Show, I'm sure it probably isn't though.

Congrats on a fine "win"! I enjoy taking my cars to shows and am always surprised if/when they win anything!! It really does not mater to me if mine is the best or not, just that people appreciate seeing it!

Don't let a car show get you down. People's choice awards usually go one of two ways from what I have seen. They either vote for the "Hot Wheels style" car with the biggest and loudest engine or for the car owner that manages to have the most friends (or club members) show up to vote for his car. I have a box full of " $10 dust collectors" (trophys) out in a storage building that have no value. For me car shows are all about attitude. Go to the car show to be with and make new friends, to let others enjoy your Model A, to help out a local charity. Enjoy the show for what it is.

i go to shows that dont even know what an "A" is !! but i do & thats all that matters to me . i go to socialize , screw the awards . i know my car is cool !!!!! dont need no one to tell me !!!! just be happy you have one !!

I have a few trophies, but do not go to shows to get trophies. I go to see the cars, and let others see my cars. If they like them or not is irrelevant. There will always be other cars that folks like better than mine, and that is fine. I like them and they give me pleasure, and that is the point of my having them.

My sentiments exactly!

I usually avoid car shows. They are invariably filled to the brim with the high $ rides that win the trophies. The accountant who sent his car off to be fully chrome plated, the CEO who bought the customer carrol shelby mustang with the signed dash, etc. I enjoy and respect these, even the trailer queens for what they are, which is, to a certain degree, rolling art. Everyone likes something different.. Heck, I even get a grin out of a well done lowrider (lol)

Me? I like to tour :)

.... whenever our 'A' club tours, wherever we stop for lunch or break becomes an impromptu car show.. We have rustbuckets, blue ribbon cars, fine pointers and touring machines..

The only trophy we hand out is the 'Trouble Trophy', which is for anyone who has a breakdown of any sort. As soon as the Trophy is handed out, we get the winner running again and rolling down the road.. Only way to get rid of the Trouble Trophy is to catch anyone else in a break down, pass it to them and then get them going. This is the best trophy I have ever won, as I have earned it by touring with my clubmembers, building friendships, becoming a better mechanic and helping the public to see our driving heritage.. I am proud of what we do for a hobby and what we bring to the public.. A chromed 6:71 blower will still not get as much grin out of a kid as an "Ahooooo-gah" from a Model A horn

Every group or organization seems to have a few people who will look at your vehicle and judge it, whether asked to or not. They almost seem to take enjoyment from pointing out what is wrong, incomplete or poorly done. Their car, of course, is perfect. They reward each other with trophies, etc. (sounds like award shows on TV...).

For the above reason, I avoid clubs. I know there are a lot of good people in them, but the jerks can make it a bad experience.

So, Willy, take pride in your car and make it the way you want it. It seems the general population loves them all, the way it should be. No awards or judging is necessary...

Took my 30 Roadster to a Fathers Day show and of course surrounded by high $ cars just gleeming in the sun. Remember coming back it was 90+ out, top down, not a cloud in the sky, sitting in traffic broiling away, finally made it to the main highway when my daughter pointed to the liquid on the windscreen and said "Dad, its starting to rain" - you know the rest of the story:(

Two different worlds willy. Your lucky that your car didn't change colors. If she had human responses, she would have turned red from being mentally undressed and violated by so many rod drivers.

As with all endeavors that require craftsmanship and talent, those that have it build them, and those that don't buy them. All my cars are built or modified by ME for ME! If I wanted model cars I would of bought Monograms or Revell plastic kits but I stopped that at 15 when I got my first Model A. :D

every time I participate in a judged car show, I write "please do not judge" on the entry card. saves the judges time and gets my point across.

in spite of that, at Ormond Beach in 2009 one of the judges gave our Coupe the "Best Unrestored Original" trophy. likely the only one we'll ever get. I agree with Richard W, they're just dust catchers. I keep old cars for tinkering and driving, nothing else.

we typically refer to the People's Choice trophy as the "Red Convertible Award" :-)
