Carb paint

What paint do you guys use on the Zenith carbs? I apparently am using crap because it doesn't hold up. Any suggestions?

PACTRA Aero Gloss JeT Black #63 is what I always use and don't have a problem. I give it 2 coats using a small hobby brush.

I also use it to paint the cast iron sediment bulbs.

My local hobby store doesn't carry this type of paint anymore. Does anyone have a recommended source?

when I was rebuilding my carbs awhile back I used engine paint in the spray cans my carb is still nice after 5 years

Search some old posts about repainting the gas gauge dial, "Doug in NJ" recommended Eastwood Ultra Chassis Black spray, which is Epoxy-based. They have a web-site. Most hobby shops don't carry fuel proof paint anymore cause of the EPA regulations, but it can be shipped to California! I think he even said he baked the finished product in the oven to set up the paint nice and hard.

Last week I saw a carburetor restored by Rex Reheis. I don't know what paint he used, but it was much "flatter" than most that I have seen. It had never been put back on a car.

I have used PPG DP-90 ever since it became available. If you want butyrate dope, the Randolph brand is available from Aircraft Spruce or Wag-Aero (Google). Gar Williams

I have had good results with Lustrekote. Go on line for a dealer.

That's where I got mine 2 yrs ago, Amato's also has a store here in New Britain. I would call them first depending on how far away you are.

I use gloss black laquer in a spray can, seems to hold up very well to gas. I get it at Mills Fleet Farm.

Well, Thanks guys! Since I live in California and they are always coming up with some new thing to ban because it somehow hurts the spotted kagaroo rat of eastern central California, I needed a little help. I decided to try to find the Lustrekote at the local hobby shop. Low and behold they had it! :) I also checked my local OSH and they also had the Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy. I would have considered the P.O.R. or the DP 90 but, I only needed to do one carb so, it wasn't cost effective. Thanks so much for the suggestions and this forum did what its supposed to do today...it taught me something!
