Left-over engine oil after an oil change...

IF you ran a Model A engine with 5 quarts of oil within AND IF the engine ran true to form, that is it did not burn any of the 5 quarts of oil put into it to begin with, just how much of the 5 quarts of oil would be left in the engine at the time of the next oil change? A quart? 3/4 quart? 1/2 quart? 1/4 quart?

This does not include those special Model A engines for which do not have the oil return tube attached to the right side of the block.

SORRY...No GENUINE Walla Walla Sweet Onions!

I'm new to model A's but I have read that there is 1/2 quart left in the engine after pulling the plug. My understanding is that upon an oil change, it only requires 4 1/2 quarts. New engines will take 5 quarts. When I just changed my oil it took about 4 1/4 quarts. hmmmm, I might have some sludge in the pan.

Just short of 5 quarts to 4 1/2 depending on how warm the engine is and how long it sits before the oil change.

Use the dip stick after the 4th quart to verify the level.

An old saying....."Four quarts of new oil, and one quart of old oil, gives you five quarts of semi used oil." Thats saying it nicely !
