Remove gas tank from my 37

I pulled the tank on my 35. I had to cut the filler neck to get the tank out. The collar hasn't budged so far. I tried everything but heat. Looks like too much solder for that. The threads get a blast every day. If I wind up destroying the collar I hope somebody sells a replacement.

Be careful about to much heat on tank...a there is lot of leaded solderings in the tanks openings. That is true on my 37 la least. Mike

most, if not all of the vendors sell the lead gasket....and the complete fill pipe might be available, too....is the pickup the same as the passenger car pipe??....Mike

Where can the lead washers be found for the threaded down spout?? Mike

Get on the phone on Monday and start calling for catalogs.

Mac's
Dennis Carpenter
Gaslight Auto
Drakes
LeBaron Bonney
C&G Fords

With the exception of Drake's, these catalogs are free for the asking. They are a big help. In fact, after a couple of nights of perusing all the catalogs you will find that you never knew you needed so many parts and equipment.

The fuel tanks and the fuel filler necks (and lead washers) for both 1937 type fuel tanks are available from most of the vendors listed above.

Sorry, Mike....i guess i was answering Straightpipes, too....i see the '37 pickup gas fill neck in C&G's catalog....just didn't see a listing for the '35 pickup, so was wondering whether they are the same as passenger car.....good luck and have fun.....Mike

Guys, I just went through the exact same problem with my 35 Tudor. The car has been sitting at least 20 years, and I thought it would be a good idea to drop the tank and clean it out. When I tried to break the collar loose from the spout, it would not separate, and after two weeks of penetrating oil, and banging on it, I looked at the cost of a new spout from Macs, and just cut the old one off. From the looks of it, I would have never gotten it apart. It had rusted and corroded until the two parts became one. Sometimes you just have to remove and replace.

Odd, my late 1937 panel van has the screw off fitting that a spanner wrench is needed. I will be removing mine to repair holes, and just sprayed it with PB Blaster. Panel vans seem to be a beast of there own!

Note: on those with threaded collar, I was told to NEVER put a sealer on those threads, they must be clean ,and the lead seal ring will do its job. Newc
