Bool Model A hubcap???

I just grabbed a 21 inch ford model A wheel from my mom's house and the cap looks just like a Ford but it says Bool? Anybody familiar with these? Was this an aftermarket cap?

Pep Boys sold them for quite a while in the early and mid '60s. I never saw a 30/31 but lots of 28/29s. They rusted like crazy!

I have both Bool and Fool hubcaps.Real junk quality on the plating.I had a 63 Ford Econoline van years ago, when I painted it I took the Ford lettering off the front instead of masking it.I found the F and D letters had the same pin/stud spacing,so I put them on to say Dorf too.

So, just what was the idea of 'Bool' on the hubcap? Why that 'word'? I've seen them they are pretty poor quality.
Why didn't they read something like 'Dorf'?

They weren't worried about what it said. They were worried about the shape of the letters looking the same as the shape of the Ford logo. So that if you were 10 feet away and had bad eyesight, you would believe they said Ford.

If they said DorF, that big tell tale cursive "F" would be at the end of the word and you would notice it was a Fake all day long.

a B in Bool is about the same size as that scrolly F. The L mimicks the upturn in the d in ford. Its more about the visual than the message.

Oh, and I just looked through my junk drawer and found a 30-31 aftermarket cap that just says "F"

Wow, never would have thought that a company would put a word on a cap that meant nothing. Learn something new everyday.

I had "FOOL" Hub caps on my '30 Tudor back in the '50s. I was going to school and that was all I could afford.

From 20 feet, they looked just fine.

I also have a cap with just the "F" on it but there is no outer ring on the edge so there must have been at least tqo different stampings.

Here you go: Spanking new Bools! (but the pic is circa 1961).

Cwpasadena? Where did you buy your Fool caps in the 50s?

I was going to school in St Louis at the time and there was an old cut-rate Auto Parts store that had all sorts of cheap replacement parts and stuff for old cars. For the most part, they did not deal in first quality stuff. I think the Model A Parts I bought had probably been on the shelf for some time.

Yup!! "Bool" looks like Ford from a distance. Aftermarket Stands for" All" "Most" works.
