Explorer in a 60 Ranch Wagon

Need info, have the 01 Explorer engine and trans in the car, set right, now the hard part. The vehicle speed sensor is in the rear end. It is mounted on the top of the differential housing.

Now for you Ford mechanics out there....is there a toothed ring attached to the ring gear or do they use the teeth on the ring gear to make the signal? I know it is the anti lock/traction control signal generator and it goes to a GEM module then distributed to other places.

Anyone a current Ford mechanic that might know?

Thanks, Bill

Thank you LOWRIDER. Can you tell me how it is mounted? Would like to keep the 9" but will swap over to the Explorer if needed.

Heres a pic. Slides over the case & held in place by the ring gear. Theres no sensor in the trans? If I remember correctly the one in the axle was part of the ABS sys.

parklane yes I am.

LOWRIDER thanks for the picture. Yes there is but the computer for the 01 uses the signal from the axle which is also the anti-lock as well as a sensor in the trnsmission. Looks like it will be easier to swap axles. I need to do a little more research with respect to options with this engine and trans and their control sytems....swap computers with earlier or Mustang....

Why don't you look around for a A9 PCM, VSS and distributor from a 89-93 Mustang, then you can keep the 9", the wiring would be easier and it would run harder
