1938 Pickup Floorboard Question

This pertains to the lower floorboard that your feet would rest on. I have a wanted add placed elsewhere on this site, one of the items on my list is a factory steel floor board as mine is currently a piece of plywood. I had thought that Ol' Henry had done away with wood in his vehicles interiors by the mid 30's, is this not the case? Did the pickups still have wooden floor boards? If this is the case, has any one here ever seen/used these from C&G early ford parts: https://secure435.hostgator.com/~dlvry40//ufolder/CgCat.php?onepart=81C-8111107 and https://secure435.hostgator.com/~dlvry40//ufolder/CgCat.php?onepart=81C-8111106 ? Any opinions, concerns, or info appreciated.

I just this week made one for my 36' I think 5\8 is perfect, it screws down and is flush, I used cardboard to make a pattern or template, and painted it black, looks great! Since I now have juice brakes I drilled out a round hole over the master cylinder plug, the metal transmission cover screws into the wooden floorboard. Too easy! One was on sale last week on Ebay, and it fetched almost $100 I quit bidding @ about $30 Make your own and save money, I have about $20 invested in my floorboard.

Ditto on the wooden floorboard in my truck, too.

Mine looks like a replacement fabbed in the 70's by the P.O.

I may replace it with one I cut myself - the current one is beginning to de-laminate. Plus I will give it that "new car smell" :D

And I had ordered a new Toe board last fall off ebay, Seeing the same one now selling from various suppliers.

I am also getting ready to redo my wood floor (39 Pickup). It was suggested to me to get marine grade plywood. Should I look into getting a sheet (4' x 8' when I only need 2' x 4'). Seems like if I did this, I would be wasting about 6 linear feet. Would an exterior grade plywood work as well? Thanks.

I used 4x8 5/8 hardwood plywood. Not that much more then regular plywood but no knots in the sheet. Used the remaining ply for shelves in the garage.

Lowes or Home Depot will cut a plywood sheet for you and sell you what you need, unless you need shelves in the garage.

The toe board is steel and the floor board is plywood like the othes have said. Go check out my thread "39 pickup progress pics" There may be some photos of this in there.

Thanks for all the responses! Has any one ever used or seen the metal floorboards mentioned above? If not, I'll probably make one of 18 gauge myself (I'm a HVAC Mechanic/tin knocker by trade).

Here are some pic's Pete, toe board has a coating called chipguard on it. First pic is the front, sec. is the back.

Good trade brother, I do service/install HVAC/R. We got good local guy's for our sheet metal stuff:D

I made mine for my 34 it was easy, also plywood is quieter than sheet metal & easier to take in & out if you should need to. I coated mine with a good polyurethane. & you can stain it if you want even though no one sees it. Just my 2 cents.
Gary.
