Can i use a 42 48 steering box casing , gears & pitman arm in my 38 car.
i am aware the horn wire hole is in the later colmns so i would like to adapt my 38 light switch assy to the bottom of the 42-48 shaft-tube housing, the main question is the Box Casing itself, is the bolt pattern the same as 38? ,thnx guys.

Green book say 21A 3548-A fits passenger 37-48 (part # for steering box).
Steering shaft is longer for 41 to 48.

The 1941 models grew 2 inches in wheel base so the steering shaft is probably longer. The basic box casting is the same and the worm & sector are the same. Columns are different with different drops.

Rotorwrench, So does that mean that the 1948 and 1940 Ford steering boxes are interchangeable? I saved an old 1948 Ford steering box and column thinking that the steering box would fit my 40 if needed.

You'all should get a hold of Vern Tardel's little handbook on Ford steering, and or check out how to build a "Traditional Ford Hot Rod by Bishop & Tardel, all the answers and illustrations are in both of them.
