Oil routing for cannister filter

On the stock oil filter cannister on an 8BA, there are two lines; one bringing oil in, and one bringing it out. I was wondering what the source and destination is for these lines as in: What feeds the oil into the cannister, and when it flows out, where exactly does the oil flow out to? Thank you

source line is from the rear of the block where the oil pressure sender is, driver's side of the block, back of the head...two ports there, use either....or the sender would be there; in your case, the pressure sender is probably up by the top of the canister...return line usually goes to fitting on pan....could be one at the dipstick, part of the mount...Mike

but what pushes oil into those lines? The oil pump doesn't directly feed into that line, right? So is it the pressure of the engine running that forces it into that line? Thanks. I know this is probably a dumb question.

The picture in the attached .pdf should answer your question. The inlet to the filter is at the top on the side of the canister. The return line just dumps back to the pan near the stick. The pressure to the filter is from the same point as the sending unit.

It's not a full flow system. Just get's engine pressure that takes a small amount of oil to the canister, then it runs through the filter and back to the block or pan. Not alot of oil through, but it does the job, a little at a time.

the oil pump pumps up into that passage where the two ports are...that's why the pressure sender if there(on earlier blocks)....from there it goes into the tube going across the valley under the intake.....feeding the crank, etc....Mike

Here is the stock 8BA oil filter setup...

One thing to keep in mind here...The T fitting at the back of the canister isn't just an ordinary T, it has a restricted flow going to the filter. Use a regular ol' T fitting there and your oil pressure will suffer. Good luck!

Does anyone have the sizes of the fittings and lines for this set up. I have a 59B Flattie that is missing the lines. I would also like to run a 12v O/P sending unit.

A simple parts or shopping list for this set up would be greatly appriciated.

You've been advised to be certain there is a .060" restriction in the pressure side fitting. Take that advise to heart!
Also, when mounting the oil pressure sending unit vertically, note the small arrow on the case. It should point up. Another one of those 'little details' that gets overlooked too often.
I do have the brass fitting that goes into the side of your filter if needed.
The lines are all 1/4" tube. That can be had at NAPA, etc. The threaded port in the back of your block is 1/4" pipe thread.
