35 Pickup Rear Glass Install

EDIT: I have installed the back glass as stated below and it appears to be fine. Feel free to answer the other questions.

I am getting ready to install the glass on my 35 pickup and I'm want to make sure there is not anything hidden to it .... Looks like I would put the setting tape on the surface of the window opening that the glass will touch and then stick the glass to it install the garnish molding and it's done? Seems too easy LOL I do realize I have to use something to activate the setting tape ... soapy water, wd-40, mineral spirits, etc. are a few I have seen others use.

Slightly unrelated .... my passenger door is missing the window channel in the door on the latch side (channel with legs on each end) ... is there a source for these? I may have missed it but I didn't see them listed at Mac's when I ordered the window channel kits and they did not come with the kit

One more unrelated ..... are the windshield frame screws available or does someone have a size ... these are the 4 short screws that hold the two pieces of the frame together.

Feel free to post any other tips tricks to installing glass in a 35 pickup!

Thanks in advance!

These retainers are not being reproduced. You will need to find a used one or hopefully a NOS one. The one on the hinge side of the door is welded in, while the one on the the lock side of the door is Part No.50-811842/3 and is held in place by 4 oval head 12-24 screws through the edge of the door on the lock side. Hope this helps.

On the back glass, get some good glass setting goop from an installer and put it inside the groove in the rubber seal, where the glass sits, then put some on the outside of the seal where it fits up against the body, make sure the seam is at the top center and push it on home and install the garnish molding. If you do not do this you will have a leak for sure.

The rear glass was a pain since I did not have a pattern. Tried to get the rubber seal to have a even exposure all around the opening. Using black (rtv) I glued it in. looks ok but it could have been better. I too was missing the parts inside the door to hold the channel. Had to make mine and works fine. If your drivers side is complete then you have a pattern to go by, Just remember you need the mirror image. good luck By looking at your blog your doing a fine job.

I think I may have done it incorrectly. My truck did not have a "rubber seal in the back" .... I just used the setting tape, I did not realize there should have been a seal. ... Oooops.

Does anyone have a picture of the seal installed on the glass or truck?

Also Thanks for the channel info, I was afraid I may have to make it.

The screw size I am looking for is for the windshield frame. I had the two bottom screws in place (each side) and I could not remove those. The two on the top half (on each side) are replaced with odd screws (one per side).

Thanks again for all the help!

Thanks Rancho .... Making that part looks fairly easy ... we will see!

I will have to put some more thought into the rear window ... I'm pretty sure I did it wrong LOL

i could tell you how to remove the rear window. when i was putting in my headliner kit, i had the garnish molding removed and i was nailing in the wind lace. i felt something hit my shoulder and heard a noise, then i turn and see the window laying on the cab floor, CRACKED in about six places. i was mad as hell, then i shut the doors in the shop and did not come back for 2 days.

I read where you had that happen! Had to suck!

Not sure of the size of the screws that hold the frame together but Roy Nacewicz has them. The seal is simply a u shaped piece of rubber, the width of the glass. Any supplier has it.
