Stacks and Stones

A lot of guys, myself included love the looks of the polished and otherwise stacks on their carbs. There seems to be little on the market to use as a filter with these other than the brass screens. Keep you from dropping nuts and bolts down the carb but not much more. I also found a set of these plastic with expanded aluminum and very light foam. I can not visualize the foam lasting long. Is there anything on the market a person could sandwich in between two of the brass screens as a decent filter. Any other ideas. Thanks Bill

The question was is there something that can be sandwiched between two screens to use as a filter???

A lot of modern air filters consist of a vertical grid about 1/2 inch thick with rectangular sides about 4 by 6 inches. Could you cut out circular sections and enclose the edges like the foam filter in your picture?

If you look at K&N filters real close, they look like layered gauze. You might be able to do something like that then spray it with the K&N filter oil to trap the dirt and such.

What type of sealant should be used on those gas fittings ?
Nothing should be used the fittings should seat themselves.Stock fittings need nothing to seal.Man hes got it all over the place. It will get into the carbs eventually and clog them up good. ken ct.:)

You obviously have not given any consideration to the restriction that is added with anything you put in the throat of the carb.
Just looking at the screen that you propose to use, it appears (without any measuring or calculating) to be at least 50% restictive. Even a piece of K&N filter would be restictive. There are formulas to determine the sq.in. requirement size based on engine size and r.p.m. As stated previously the stacks were meant for track use. The best you can do is to use a screen that has openings ( 1/4"-3/8" ) to catch any large objects.
