28/29 Closed Cab pickup rear cab mounts

28 closed cab

I am trying to mount my cab to frame and have a problem. The rear of the cab has two sets of mounting holes, I thought the inner two were for a pickup and the outer two were for a double a truck, But the inner two are at 31'' centers and the frame has no holes at that dimension. The frame maybe a car frame but I thought car and pickup were the same? Can someone confirm the 31'' dimension and did the pickup have a extra bracket or something to mount back of cab? Any help would be great. Thank you

Car frames and commercial frames were all the same EXCEPT for the body mounting holes. Most car frames also did not have the side mount bracket for the side mount spare tire that most, if not all, commercial vehicles had. Otherwise the frames themselves were the same.

Do the holes on the body match up with the frame?

So center the body on the frame and drill holes for the attachment of the body to the frame.

The problem is the the inside set of holes do not line up with frame, the inside set would only catch the inside edge by half a hole, so my question is to find out which set of holes is for a pickup. Thanks

Hmmmm....OK...If the frame that you are using is by chance a LATER frame, say a late 1930 frame, what might be throwing you off is the fact that the front body mounts were moved BACKWARDS a few inches thus the reason for why the holes are not lined up.

Since I/we can not see just what it is you are working on, frame wise, that this is just a guess.

Hi I do not know the year of the frame for sure, it was a bare frame when I got it. The front holes all line up but anything is possible. Do you know a dimension from say the front axle center line to the front cowl bracket? If I knew that I could check. Thanks for your help.

Go to my website www.plucks329s.org and view my frame article I did for The Restorer and try to ID the frame from that.

Get a copy of how to restore your model a volume 6
page 23 thru 33 locating and installing body blocks
hope this helps you out.

Well I looked at the frame info and I am pretty sure I have a 29 frame, as I said earlier all the front holes line up as well as the center two, so I can drill the rear holes but would just like to know if the pickups used the inner or outer set of holes in the rear. The rear sill on cab is aftermarket so maybe it is wrong? Thanks for the help

Hi, just climes under my truck and measured. The outer holes are used. 33 1/2 center to center. Mine hasn't been off the frame. Hope this helps
