What are these?

Hi all,

I posted this in the "T" forum but haven't gotten any responses, so I thought I'd try here.

My father got these two items at an estate sale a couple weeks ago. The one piece looks to me like a rear/side view mirror with lights (it has wires coming out the bottom for a light bulb inside). It was painted black but we discovered that it was brass underneath so he polished it out.

The other item looks incredibly familiar but I can't for the life of me figure out what it is. The gentleman who owned the estate had a lot of artwork that he made out of car-related parts, so he obviously took some kind of frame and put a red lens in it. There's a coin glued into the smaller hole, and what seems to be a handle protruding out.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Nick

They look nautical to me. Brass so they don't rust.

It looks like there are two color lenses on the small mirror one on either side. Could that be for a boat, marking starboard (right or green) and Port (left or red)

It looks like the frame for an old stovetop waffle maker.

Check out the waffle maker on ebay # 260620718792 to see a similar one.

Well, I'll be. Tom W, my father says he wants to buy you a cigar. That was one heck of a piece of detective work. And now we can finally stop racking our brains...

Thanks for all the input, guys!

You can learn a lot by attending a lot of old farm auctions, like I used to do in the 70's and 80's in South Dakota. The good old virgin farm auctions are pretty well gone now though. The days of buying an antique pantry cupboard for a buck are gone. Unfortunately I had no place to keep it, so even at a buck I had to pass it up.
