model a engines

what are the main differences
between a 1928-1929-1930-1931 engines? how can you tell by looking? thanks

There was essentially no MAIN brg. difference throughout production.
All mains were poured babbit, shimmed and align bored to 1.625".

....hope this answers the question :)

There were changes throughout production. Best way to know is to check the Service Bulletins. Changes were internal and not visible from the outside.

Contained on my website, www.plucks329s.org you will find an icon on the front page about the 40 horsepower engine (Model A/AA).

Within that file, you will see a "guide" for which you can ID an engine (or a block) IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE ORIGINAL ENGINE NUMBER.

There are about 25 or so key differences that will place you within the window of production for that block.

The other way is to go to the monthly engine number specs if you have a block for which the original engine number is still readable.

That was five (5) CAM bearings, I believe.

Thank you! I seem to have a mental block about that as I mentioned that incorrect information once before.

Thankfully I don't think I confused anyone and you posted the correct information. I think part of my problem on this is that Terry Bertz is working on his "new" Model A engine and his block will have the 5 main bearings.

Anyway, thanks for the correction!
