I have a Stewart Warner oval speedo. I order a new number label sheet for it. I have the speedo in my hands right now wonder how the hell this thing opens up ? I best ask before I break it, Im a pro at breaking good items.:D

Willy, you're cutting a diamond. You can get the odometer and trip wheels out without special tools, but the speed cup is a lot trickier. And when replacing the decals you'll need the patience of Job. There is a good reprint of Gordon Fischer's "how-to" posted somewhere, but I just did a search and can't find it. Maybe someone else knows where it is. I urge you to do some reading before you tackle this project. There is some slight info in Les Andrews' book. vol I.

Ok, I aint scared, do have the patience, and pretty good at mechanical break down an repairs. I removed the rear screw and the case did not easily open, so I stoped. Really need to know how this case is suppose to open correctly with out doing damage.. Im so more question may apear after I get into it.. I nice break down print out would be a great help.

Wildwilly,
Sorry I don't have any illustrations BUT I have taken a round speedometer apart and it too has the one screw in the rear. After removing it from the dash panel I tapped with a hard wood block around the back of the chrome ring which holds the speedometer in place. After removing the chrome ring remove the screw it should come out from the case. I also compared this to a OVAL one that I have and it should be the same. Have patience and take your time removing the ring.
Hope this helps.

Hay Ya'll ! I'm in. This is simple now, removed one screw to remove the trip, a slight pry on the odometer bar to raise the pin enough an able to remove with needle nose plyars. Keeping in mind to watch for springs. Thanks all for your help in this unknown area. I got it from here now.

It's important that the numbers on each wheel are replaced in the exact same position, so as the nine rolls around the next wheel will turn one digit. I mention this in case you install the decals as one piece then all the wheels will need to be turned until the like digits are all lined up. Then if you remove all the old numbers, you will have to know exactly where the "0" should be.
