Threaded hole on right side of engine block...

Could someone "FABRICATE" some DATA on this hole that would satisfy everyone, so we could get on to something important, such as: How much pre-load should be applied to Snyder's CHOCOLATE WHEEL BEARINGS!!---Bill W.

Bill, no one is making you to continue looking at these posts about this subject...if you do not like this part of Model A'ing, then move on to something else so those of us who are interested in this sort of thing can help future interested Model A'ers.

Thanks Bill for your comments.

Oh...and I hope you have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in 2012!

Thanks Bill for your comments. Pluck, I apologize for rattling too much at times, sorry.:( I appreciate your website, lots of good info. and lots of work and time creating it. The dog just told me to keep it serious and constructive. If Pat was here, she would keep me straight also.--Bill Williamson

Remove the plug and put a screw in the hole when removing the pan to keep the oil pump from falling out. Replace the plug after the pan has bee put in place.

Does anyone have access to the Ford engine block drawings and engineering releases for the block? I would think the function of the hole would be addressed in one of those documents?

Ron,

I have all of the Part Releases which reference the Model A Cylinder Block.

There is nothing within those Releases that tells us of the "function" of the hole or even it's "addition".

It very well could be on some of the very early drawings but I have no access to them at this time.

Someone closer to the Ford Archives could possibably help out on this.

Sure, you just like many of us can go to the Bensen Research Library (just inside the gate at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI) and start "looking". For me, I am only up there once or twice a year so my available time is limited. And, ....many of the releases are not there (missing) so what you must do is scan through very tiny Microfiche films looking at drawings on only one or two Viewers (gotta get there earlier and wait your turn) comparing drawing after drawing. My experience is that it not something you can just walk in and look for 10 minutes and have a definitive answer.
