The rear mat in my 29 Tudor is original... though suffering. It's getting very brittle.

700rpm ......................
I extended the life of the original rear floor mat in my 1934 Phaeton (avitar), by contact cementing it to a piece of canvas. It was getting brittle and breaking up. I wish that I had done it, years sooner.

Beautiful car and dogs! You're lucky to have that nice rear mat. It looks like you have white wrapped on the rear top bow. Aren't all the bows black? Just wondering what I see on the steering column? It must be a clamp for turn signals?

Thanks Tom,

I have had the car around 6 weeks and learning lots! Yes the bows have some sort of grey material wrapped around them, I agree its not nice. I will address this soon. Yes it has indicators fitted as its law here to have them. They seem to have been done about as tasteful as they could be I guess.

I would love to know when in 28 it was built.
I have some literature saying Dec1927 for CA1 - CA5373

Is there a gas tank date? Otherwise you can come close by looking through the SERVICE BULLETINS for all the small changes that took place during the year.

Gas tank date?

Datestamp.jpg

For several months during the 1928-9 production the gas tanks had dates stamped into the front lower side, just above the lip that bolts to the lower firewall. It's not known for certain exactly at what point in production the date was stamped, but it's a good starting point to date many 28's and 29's. This is my 9-27-28 Phaeton stamp. Just a week later the cars came with the new starter using the 5/8" drives.

Hi Tom I had a look on the tank before going to work, no stamping.

Mine has original paint on the firewall, but unfortunately the outside of the car was painted black in the 50's. If your firewall was repainted the date (if it had one) may have been filled in or sanded out. I've seen some dates stamped upside down, and didn't someone once show a picture of the date on the right side of the tank?

I have original mats in my 31 Tudor.I did anyway,I just replaced them. They are very brittle, and break easily.I laid them in the shed, and park my pickup over them.I tried to give them away, but they have to be hauled away in the back of a truck or wagon. They need to stay perfectly flat.On the gas tank,it may have been me with the date on the riders side.I had a 28 RPU with the date stamped upside down over there.I don't remember if I posted a picture or not,I sold the truck a few years ago.

Your motor would have been stamped in March 1928. The numbers went from CA 3229 - CA7172.

Does your original mat have any manuafacturer's markings on it?

Here is what the front one would have looked like.

I just had a close look, all I can see is Ford on the top, and no other markings.
Its a little hard to tell but looks like the same pattern as what's in the front photo.

Where is this information from?
