a lucky hit out on the road.....

Friday afternoon on the road home we were following a large dump truck along the Ohio River west of Tell City IN. gravel from the truck bounced off the road and I could hear it hitting our fenders.

later we stopped for gas in Morgantown KY and discovered a big square divot in the radiator. it is over 3/4 inch tall and 3/8 inch deep. the rock was kind enough to strike exactly between two tubes.

Yipe ! You were lucky indeed !

Makes me think I should put a stone-guard on my '28 ( much as I dislike their looks )... we have a lot of debris-spewing trucks around here...

I, too, dislike the appearance of stone guards.
since this is the first such indignity I have suffered in 24 years of Model As, I will continue to take my chances.

it's only an old aftermarket radiator I paid $35 for (plus cost of cleaning).
I have had three Model As with nice original radiators. if one of them had been similarly whacked, I would not be as relaxed........

Lucky indeed!! Put a car between the 'A' and the truck or don't follow dump trucks spewing rocks so closley...

skip.

mileage....

we did not depart Friday until after the Lady As Driving Tour; and rain most of yesterday slowed us down somewhat, so we are only in Opelika AL this morning. 546 miles so far, our total mileage going up last week was 924.

Miles driven & cars seen.......

arrived home 7:15 PM tonight.

873 miles from French Lick.

total for the entire trip, 2,239 including 442 miles driving around while at the meet.

total consumption: used 1 pint of oil and about 3 qts. of water. not bad considering 5 of 6 days on the road were 100 degree afternoons.

have not totalled up gasoline expenditures or mileage yet. several tanks approached 20 mpg, others not so good.

cars pictured were for sale on a street corner in downtown Tifton GA.
31 Tudor is very solid & almost totally rust-free. the "truck" is a rust bucket cobbled together from a 28-29 Phaeton. asking prices unknown. three other Model As & many parts visible inside the building.
