Hey I know there is not a lot of guys out there playing with 42-47 ford trucks, but I was not able to find a usable stock gas tank and was forced to build my Owen. I placed it under the box behind the rear Axel and the filler pipe comes up through the floor of the box. Has anyone put a tank in from a different newer truck or car that worked well?? Mine is only about 10 gal. capacity. Ok around town but a pain on a trip.

i play with these. have a tank from my 42 that has a small amount of pinholes around depression for outlet bung. not a tough repair.i started making phone calls to find one, and came up with a lead-- will pm you.

Early Mustang tanks work in a lot of vehicles. The top of them is part of the trunk floor. Unbolt/ lift out. Also available as repro and reasonable priced from some suppliers. About 16 gallon I believe. For you guys that aren't stock they really work slick. Also, check out the size of the early Mustang radiator. Fits a lot of grille shells, easy to mount, and will cool your 302 or other V8 real well. Also available reasonable from some suppliers. Three years ago my cost was $128.74

A freind called the other night to come over and look at a 76 ford f-100 he is restoring. The gas tank is in the rear like the mustang, but the filler hose is on the drivers side which would work better than a center fill like my home made one. The real issue is the small size of my gas tank compared to the stock one.

I made a tank for my model A it fits under the bed and holds about 15 gal. It is made out of 1/8" steel, two pieces, each are bent into a "C" shape, then they fit inside each other. The fill goes out the left side of the box. I have a thing about guys filling up the box with batteries and gas tanks.

A lot of the newer vehicles have heavy plastic tanks, go to a junk yard and maybe you can find one that will fit into the space allowed. I have a Duramax diesel that had fuel issues and pulled the tank thinking it was dirty. The fuel line to the engine is 1/2" ID all the way to the engine and they had a hole in the pick up .240 ID. I made a new pick up 1/2" ID and now it runs better than it ever did and looks like over 2 MPG gain in fuel consumption. I decided to put on an addition tank and found one on eBay, tank, sender, return cooler, hanger straps and fuel filler neck for $200.00 including shipping. Have to move shock and reroute exhaust but looks like it will work. G.M.
