Model A parts

My wife and I recently moved to a new location to be closer to our grand kids. But the new home we bought did not have a shop or room for the 40 year collection of Model A cars and truck loads of parts I had amassed over the years. Even though we knew months in advance we were going to move I had very little luck in selling my stuff . Not a single so called vintage car guy or model A enthusiast even made an offer not even on the four model B engines I had.Just before the scrap guy showed up one of the HOT ROD guys made a low offer and it was saved from the crusher. It wasn't that I was hard to deal with and unreasonable , No body even called or came to look. Now I am just like the rest of the model A people and I will never save another Model a from the crusher or the so called dreaded HOT RODDERS. At least they give a crap .

All the major Model A clubs in CANADA new my stuff was for sale. I wanted to sell the stuff in lots not one part at a time for the next ten years.

fI know that you are somewhat frustrated in this, but I have also advertised stuff and it seems no-one was interested or had money . This even for goods I offered for free but They only had to pay the actual shipping cost. No response or got the most stupid questions / response's . Such as : you have a horn for sale : yes I have , < would you please be so kind as to attach it to power so I can listen to the sound ?
I hung up and ended the conversation. So I'll keep what I have and the free stuff is to the dump.

Thanks The model A clubs on the lower main land and in Calgary had adds in there classifides for months and I didn`t receive any interest. It is a shame all this stuff is going to the scrap dealers rather than the people who should care about it. They are the first ones to talk about saving history when some one else ends up with it. I quese if you look into history the hot rodders were saveing this stuff in the 30s and 40s before the restore guys started to anyway.

I personal have both restored and hot rods. Look at it this way, the parts you sold to a hot rodder may have saved at least one or maybe many restored cars from being dismantled for hot rod projects. Were I live it is cheaper to buy a restored car and just use the body off of it and junk the rest. So you need to just look on the bright side.

WOW not a single taker. I would guess that alot depends on the area and activity of model A's where one lives.

There was a guy in Miami that had amassed a garage full of parts. A group of went to see what he had and brought cash for some parts they wanted. The guy would not sell seperate pieces and wanted to sell only the whole thing. They went away empty handed. I don't know whatever became of the parts.

There was another case in Long Island, I believe, 50 year collection including some cars that was posted on ebay as a whole lot. I also don't know what happened to all that stuff.

It's tough to purchase that much stuff and move it to storage.

I don't think I ever read about a sale where the price was at scape prices. I mean if someone is willing to sell the stuff as scrape maybe get a bathroom scale and weigh the pieces to determine the price at the time of the sale.

As was already mentioned, Ebay for horns, carbs and other pieces like that. How about an "auction" they always seem to bring big bucks.

One more thing, the two national clubs know of young men and women who would love to get a donation of parts for their projects. If the clubs act like middle men you might get a tax break on the donation.

Canada,eh..hmm! I know guys here, that have huge collections of model a stuff, like you say you did. I've never heard of any of them giving any stuff away. You have me worried about this treasure going to dadump ! Now I'm wondering how it would sound if I said to them....hey , if you're EVER getting rid of that stuff/give it away...make sure you call me before junking it! How do you go about saying something like that anyway
It ain't like I don't have room to store stuff..she don't need to know:D

I am the hotrod guy that has all of Tiquers stuff.
I didnt really need the stuff or want it that bad, I was just saving it and helping Tiquer out of a tight spot.
I was with him at the swap meet with a trailer load of Model A stuff, everything on the trailer was 5$, no matter what it was.
There were phaeton body parts, complete trannys etc, some people looked, but not many bought anything.
I was amazed when Tiquer hauled a mostly full trailer home again.
So now I have a storage building full of stuff.
We do need some of it for my Dads Model A, but hopefully it will slowly help out some people.

tiquer: I'm on this board 4-5 times a day and I honestly don't remember you posting here your situation and that you had parts to "dispose" of. . But obviously you knew of the forbarn's existance and that people from all over the world read and post here on a daily basis. We are NOT "on the lower main land and Calgary"...............
Thank You Deuce-Merchant and hopefully you'll remember the Barn when you decide to "liquidate". JMO

What I don't understand is, why bellyache on FordBarn. Why not advertise on FordBarn. Someone from south of the border might just come get the stuff.

I wish I could find deals like that here in Florida, $5.00 damn all I ever see are parts that the owners think are made of gold.

I didn't know about this pile of parts for sale either, but thanks to Deuce-Merchant for saving it from the dump. I'd rather give away or donate parts than sell them to the dump, where they will be gone forever.

In fact most of the metal that goes to the dump probably goes to China to make more junk!

Yes if it weren't for kelly the stuff would be scrap. As he said even at the swap meets and for $5.00 a piece.I mean really. In fact Kelly did me a great favor by taking this stuff off my hands. He saw what was happening and even though he did not really need or want this stuff he took it to save it from the scrap guys.

As Tiquer said, it was a very good deal for me, and I will go out of my way to help him out any chance I get.He is one of the few guys I have met that I can truely call my friend.

PS, Brad, the EAB heads are in the truck, see you on Tuesday

I wonder if it's a sign of the times. Everyone always fears that the hobby will die off in 10 years, then those 10 years come and go with the same amount of enthusiasm for the hobby. I'm not saying things are dying off....

But I wonder if the nature of things has changed. Gone are the days of big parts stashes because you can call up your parts vendor and have a new replacement part on hand within days. Not bad for a new car, and certainly not bad for an 80 year old car! People don't restore parts anymore, they replace them. Why keep boxes of NORS bendix springs on hand just in case yours were to break months before the next swap met, when you can get a new modern bendix drive within days? Who needs multiple motor mounts when most run Float-a-motor mounts, who needs multiple service brake cross shafts when they only have one car and the part rarely fails?

The things that do fail? We order new ones, water pumps, fans, alternators, carbs, distributor parts, etc.

As for me, I'm still very interested in the old and original parts. I enjoy restoring! Too bad this collection wasn't more widely known or closer to home!

I've let a bunch of stuff go by me in the last couple of years.I followed a friend with a trailer load of A stuff into a gas station. He was doing a barn cleanout for an estate, the guy had lots of engines, frames, rear ends, transmissions, etc.all heavy stuff,no sheet metal. He said he would drop it at my house for scrap price.I thought about it,then turned it down.Scrap was at it's peak and he got a total of $7000.in three loads. He is a bit of a preservationest, and he thought about trying to peddle it off, but,he really had no room to store it,he had no way to unload it,(the forklift was on the cleanout job)and he had hired help waiting on him to come back with the truck and trailer. At the peak price of $380.per ton I wasn't buying any of it.

Well one would say it will bring up the price of parts that someone did save.:p Hopefully SOME DAY:rolleyes:. Right now i have some parts for free and i wish i had space in my truck to bring them to Hershey this year. There is next year. And the parts are not in my way ,just to dump.:D

just sold a bunch of T parts since i sold all my T's had them listed here had one or two inquirys and made one sale sent the guy pics and once he gotthe parts he wanted a refund of most of his purchase price plus a refund for all the shipping costs
the rest of my items i sold on Ebay got 2 to 3 times my asking price here GO figure
and everyone who bought my stuff on ebay was very happy if not more then happy
Now this was my most recent exspirance now i not saying ebay better then here this is a great place chat and talk old cars and find those parts ones looking for and i was hoping to sell here just didnt work out that way
Shipping is a killer for most items any more so location of buyers and sellers makes a big difference in making deals
hot rodder rat rodder and restorer we all love old iron and it all off us against the scrap man for sure

We are always buying large lots of Model A Parts. Within reasonable distances. Had we known about it, we may have ventured up to look at it. Did you ever advertise it here on Fordbarn?
