What is recommended for hairline cracks in an original 39 steering wheel? Bondo, epoxy, fiberglass resin?

Try PC 7, I think that is the right name. It is a two part epoxy. V the crack, and clean it really well.

"V" or clean out the cracks, then fill with PC-7. An old hacksaw blade, hand administered will work well to enlarge the cracks enough to permit filling. Leave the fill slightly high and sand down to contour. The PC-7 will shrink very slightly while curing so be sure to leave it a bit high. I used a wrap of ducktape on each side of each crack to help confine the fill to the crack and minimize the mess. dw

... so, this PC-7 is good stuff ?

I have used por 15 epoxy putty on two steering wheels, you can mix it with your hands and it is water based so you can wet your fingers to form it. Worked very well.

ducktape? Do you mean duct tape? ;)

Actually, duct tape began as duck tape because it is cloth based. The cloth is loosely woven cotton commonly known as duck cloth which was coated on one side with adhesive and a vinyl material on the other side. Ducktape was developed for the military to temporarily seal out water from various pieces of equipment and material. It later began to be used to seal HVAC ducts and then became known as duct tape. So, in the end, I guess you can call it whatever suits your fancy. dw
