How Many Spare Flathead V-8 Engines Out There?

I have 1 V8-60 4 x 99a Mercury blocks (1 X NOS) and about five or six other mixed blocks, nothing later than C69A though in my collection here in New Zealand :D

One, cast in a supporting role.

I've got an older buddy, in his mid-eightys now, that use to be a flathead engine for the racers back in the day. He has a 2-1/2 car garage behind his house in the alley with several engine stands and he still loves to rebuild them. He has an old Sun distributor machine and all the old skool tools needed to rebuild these engines. He can't stand on his feet very long and is pretty much restricted to rolling around his concrete floor on an office chair going from bench to stand. He is a Korean war vet and a Viet Nam vet works with him on a daily basis helping him with the heavy lifting, however this guy has heath issues also.
I love watching him work with these engines, he still won't use adjustable lifters--grinds all the valves to spec length, adjusting old rod and crank bearings to fit and generally rebuilding using the old parts when possible. He's especially good at rebuilding old dizzys and carburetors as he still has about 70 years of parts. LOL.
I love watching him rebuild these things SO much that it's almost broke me. I've drug 3 or 4 blocks to him including a big ole 337 inch from an F-8, he checks the block for cracks, fixing them if necessary, he replaces the rods, bearings, pistons if need be, however he just usually fits new rings, then sends them out to be balanced and runs it for a bit on his stand, just long enough to bring the engine to temp and torque the head bolts a couple of times. I finally had to quit, I think I'm outta room.
Anybody wanta buy a rebuilt flattie around denver?...slim

1 46, 1 48, 1 51 Merc, 1 53 Ford, but my CI is way up there because I also have 2 364 and 2 401 Buicks, 303 and 324 Olds, 331 Cad, 455 Olds, and misc other 289 and 302s, 383 and 318 Mopar, and I'm sure I missed something. Oh yeah, I do have some of those brand X smallblocks,BUT, they are because one of my sons has a Brand X BIG truck.

1 dis-assembled that I hope to someday put back together
1 industrial out of an early 50's orchard sprayer

Denverslim,
What a great video! Wish I lived close to that guy! Bless his heart! I love to hear a flathead awaken from a long sleep!

Slim,
They all have that unique flathead sound, from a 60HP to the 337. That guy has to love what he is doing! Thanks for sharing this!
