Reproduction Radiator (aftermarket)

When I was building my 1931 Pickup I purchased a radiator from Tam's in Massachusetts. My commercial radiator shell would not fit the radiator, but a stainless radiator shell would. The radiator I am using and want to replace is original and fits the steel commercial shell. Anyone know of a reason for this?

perhaps you have an AA shell. The commercial shell on a pickup has the widows peak. The AA has a straight line across the top opening. The AA core has one more row of tubes and the shell is thicker to accommodate it. The commercial A shell should fit the same radiator as a car. But with repros, you never know.

Pat, this is the shell on my 1931 Pickup, I didn't think it was a AA, when I bought it. Can you clarify? Thanks

I'm curious about the bad reviews as well. I've been using a Brassworks on my '31 for 3 years now and I have no complaints. It installed quickly, fit well and does its job. The only modification I had to make was to bend the overflow pipe so I could install my Motometer.

I needed a radiator and definitely STAYED AWAY from Brassworks because of numerous negative FordBarn postings regarding their PRESENT ownership, which is not the traditional owner of past years who had a very good reputation based upon the postings.
Do you know when the ownership changed?

The Brassworks

The Brassworks was founded in the mid-seventies in a garage in Turlock, CA. It was moved to San Luis Obispo, CA and the business was sold in 1993. In 2006 I purchased the company and began investing in the people, equipment, dies and tooling to improve the quality of the radiators and reduce the delivery time. The company moved to a larger facility in Paso Robles, CA two years ago.

The Model A reproduction radiators we make are based on a collection of original radiators we have amassed over thirty years. We use custom fixtures and test fit with original shells to assure dimensional fit. We pressure test every hand-built radiator to ensure there no leaks. We endeavor to produce an authentic looking Ford reproduction Model A radiator and we take pride in our work.

In addition to Model As we make reproduction Model T radiators, Brass era car radiators, cellular cores, cartridge cores, coin and disc and spiral tube radiators. We restore honeycomb radiators and unique cores and fabricate brass era car shells and stoneguards. We also fabricate custom radiators
for street rod and classic cars from as early as 1903 to the mid sixties.

Anyone passing through the area is welcome to tour our facility, meet our employees and see how a hand-built radiator is constructed. Please call us at 805-239-2501 if you have any questions about our company or product.[FONT=&quot]

I'm sure we would all be interested in hearing about any concerns about Brassworks, their products, or their customer service...as I'm sure Lee at Brassworks would be, too. From Lee's response (above) he sounds like a straight shooter who's trying to build, sell, and service a superior product. Does it always go like we want it to? Well, probably not...but in my book, the true mark of a good company is how they rectify a bad situation when something goes awry. Everything I've ever heard about Brassworks has all been postive.

Bruce...care to elaborate? ...and give Lee a chance to respond?

BTW, Lee...we'll be doing some business in the near future.

Yes,
There were numerous complaints on (the old) Fordbarn in the recent years about problems NOT CORRECTED by Brassworks. A Brassworks radiator from Bratton's was but ten dollars more than the unbranded heavy duty one I purchased from Bratton's, and it had more fins per inch, but I remembered the postings which resulted in a statement by a Brassworks official just like this time, though I never saw statements of RESOLUTION by the earlier, complaining, posters.
I DID call Brassworks a week ago Thurday morning when my old radiator was deemed as needing a new core, to see if I could get information, and to establish their sales and shipping price. There was no LIVE response, so I left my callback and reason for the call. By the time I received my return call from Brassworks, Bratton's radiator was already received from MD and installed it in my car on Long Island. This reinforced my feelings about their PRE-SALE customer service, since I already had a feeling based upon those many postings about POST-SALE SERVICES, though I was open to additional information.

Read the recent postings by customers in last week's thread.

I am pleased with the unbranded radiator I received from Bratton and have no axe to grind with Brasswworks, though I did post my reasons for MY choice of suppliers when requested last week.

Hopefully there will be a number of postings by RECENT purchasers of Brassworks Radiators to re-establish their past, fine reputation, for those others who read postings here on Fordbarn.

Interesting that Lee from Brassworks took the time to register on the Barn and this was his first post . Seemed to be trying to still the waters, but if there were posts last wk and then this thread he certainly did not address any concerns posted here.
More questions than answers. JMO
