I was told that I have the wrong bumpers on my 30 coupe. My front is a mostly straight but have curve inward on the ends. My back is straight . Was also told that the rear should be a 2 piece, ( left an right side) My spares are in the front fenders. What is true about this ??

Looks like 28-29 front bumper. The rears were two seperate sets but you could get one that was like the front for the rear. A picture of the rear would help also.

the rear looks like what most front bumpers look like. This car is an early 30, found this out by the brow fenders on it. just wonder if this front bumper was also another unique feature. I do want to at least the correct parts on her..

You difinately have a 28-29 Front bumper. Your bumper brackets to frame appear to be correct, believe all you need is the correct front bumper which will not have the dipped ends. If your "A" is a early 30, you can get by with the forged bumper clamps like you have.

hello , i love your coupe...looks great !
hmm, you say early '30. do you have the TWO piece front fenders, i.e. with the 'nose' piece that is spot welded to the rear of the front fenders? also is the splash apron/running board integral/one piece?
i ask because bumpers not correct, head lights dont look correct and the horn is chrome appearing in photo?? also, can you show us a pic of dash panel ?

That is a nice looking '30 coupe. Hard to see but front fenders may be the v early '30 'eyebrow' type?. I would leave bumpers as they are if it does not bother you.
Actually, Ford Canada exported some early '30's with '29 bumpers ; my Dad had one in early '60's & it is still like that.

I have to say that Im just learning about model A's. I bought this car from my uncle a few weeks back, who had it a short time before buying it off my dad, who two years ago found it stored in a barn since 1965. So far I believe it is an early 30 because of the eyebrow fenders. it has a late 29 engine in her and still researching other parts to find out what I truly now own. but the past car show I was in had brought up questions about this bumper, an had no answer. Im new to this an have alot to learn. I will say that this car is in good shape to start restoring back to what she once was.

your right about the head lights, they are wrong. the buckets seem right, but with modern sealed beams in them. I dont like it. I will get them back to the way they need to be. the dash is not smooth< it is stamped. will try to but up more pics. Im not good with computers, so i will try my best

Buy a set of the Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards from MARC/MAFCA. Many of the Ford parts changes were running changes within a Model A production run and NOT by calendar year. You could get some not so common combinations with early or late production.

here are some more pics I just took to show some of the differentance in my car. Im not sure if these are all the right parts yet ?

Very nice Willy! I'm in your area if you need any help, i've had my Huckster for a year now and have gone through it enough to know a good bit. Enjoy!

You know, there's something nice about a car that has "evolved" with a few personal touches from the previous owners (as long as your eye does not find them offensive). I kind of like the looks of your car; the only things that I find a little hard to accept are the seal-beam lights and what I can see of the door panels... too modern looking. other than that, the bumpers don't really bother me that much. I think you have a fine car, and I would drive it for a while and make sure all the mechanicals are working okay... then if you feel like making the changes, do it. You may find you need to spend your hobby money on something more necessary on the car, rather than cosmetic.

Don't be in a hurry; take your time and you will eventually run across the parts you need. I like it. Drive it safely,

Richard

My 31 Budd Cab PU came to me with a 28-29 headlight bar and a 30 stainless radiator shell. Oddly enough, the headlight bar is the only thing that has caught the eye of guys in our club as being incorrect.

Ford used up earlier parts during transition and maybe your car was built in late 29 with a few things like the bumpers that were still around a late 29 could be built with the new bodystyle and sold as a 1930 with 1930 registration. Research the engine date, it may coincide with the frame date.

thanks for sharing these pics, wow nice A ! i would't change a thing on it personally. and, from what i see it sure looks to be an early '30. just goes to show that 'they' are still out there ! any engine pics ?

If a set of correct "rears" came up for the right price you could put your existing 30-31 rears on the front and sell the 28-29's. Looks good the way it is though. I've always liked the 28-29 bumpers.

To repeat Rusty Homestead above ^^

Take the 30-31 front bumper off of the back of your car and move it to the front.

Sell the current 28-29 bumper that is on the front of your coupe and find some 30-31 coupe rear bumperettes.

Random internet picture to show the rear.

the engine numbers do show that it is a late 29 engine. now for the frame numbers, have not found them yet..
