The body drop.

Put the body on today, actually I don't put the body on the chassis, I put the chassis under the body. Not shown in the picture is an in-the-floor hoist. The body is raised with the hoist and suspended on planks while the chassis is rolled under it. The chassis is then hoisted to meet the body. That is Rainmaker Rons version of the one man body drop. I have done many and never lifted any thing heavier than a plank.
Still much to button up but time to start loading for Hershey. Stop by the old chilli party spot and say hello. CV4-9.

Neat technique Ron, makes me wish I had a floor hoist.
Tell me the story about this paint scheme. Is this a specialty commercial paint plan for a particular company? BTW that cab looks beautiful.

I use a similar method. I raise the body with the lift, then roll the chassis under, and lower the body.

The Blue paint on white is to match the daughter and son-in-law's riverboat. Google Riverboat Twilight to learn about it. The truck will be used to promote their business.

Nice to see how a little thought and the right equipment can keep assembly a one man job. I too would like a lift. Both trucks are looking very good, Ron, good to see the use to promote the kids' business. 2manycars that is one sweet AA looks like it would laugh at tonnage. This thread reminds me of a guys building when I was young, he had a trolley chain hoist on a full length (end to end) steel I beam. He pulled the car in one end, and would remove the body, push the body to the next are to work on suspended or lower to work horses, and when ready push it into the paint booth.

Here is a shot of the completed AA dump. I restored that about 5 years ago for a local guy who hauls stove wood with it.

You don't need a hoist & can easily mount a body by yourself. I raise the body & support it on two 2x6's. Remove the wheels & steering column from the chassis. Put long 2x4's under the brake drums & roll the chassis under the body using the 2x4's a track. This method has worked for me a couple times when I've had no help. Four able bodies & a six pack are a little easier & less work.

There are many ways to achieve body raising or lowering by ones self, I prefer a much less involved option, the hoist or lift would seem to be a much simpler process. IMO

Ron,

You've got more tricks then I think anyone else could remember... I am taking notes and writing many down after each time I work with you... Enjoy Hershey!

Love my lift. Picked it up for $400 from a shop going out of business. The bad economy has left some good deals out there if you got cash.

Asapguy, this wasn't a thread about the easiest way to do it yourself, it was someone showing their way, it just happens they have one. I am sure, there are more guys with a lift or access to one than you would think.

correct, Steve. any Model A person near Asheville NC will have access to a lift after I get mine set up, which should be soon. waiting for the weather to cooperate so we can get the slab poured. life is good when you have a lift.

Chris,

Have fun with your lift, I am jealous.... :). A few years ago my brother closed a small auto shop with 4 different types of lifts, at the time I didn't have the building to keep any. And I didn't want one just laying around outside. He gave them away to customers who could use them, as his new 14 bay shop was getting new lifts. Maybe one day, I'll have one, till then I will have to rely on others with a lift, it sure beats laying on my gravel driveway anyday.....

Using a left may be easier but how many average Model A guys have one or access to one??

I bought mine for $600 from a buick/gmc garage that was upgrading to larger lifts to accommodate the trucks. No room inside, so I poured a 6-inch slab of concrete and bolted it to that. Here is a photo of using the lift to install the bed on a 50 chevy pickup.
