Source for 68-C Window Assembly

Now that my steering box is sorted out, the last part of the restoration of my '31 Cab is the windows. The previous owner did not have anything but the regulators and the channels that fit in the front of the door. I need to start gathering the parts but I really don't even know what I'm missing. I would appreciate any recommendations for the best place to find a schematic of the window assembly and a good source for window parts and glass. Thanks

Steve

I followed your stg box "opportunity" with great interest, but don't remember you posting having found a solution. Enlighten me (us), please.

The front and rear channels are unique to the 68C in their design.

They were just a U channel of sheet metal and they are easy to fabricate. They appeared to have been dipped in a rubber compound and then a thin black tight weave felt applied inside the channel. Finding felt is fun, modern windshield setting compound can take the place of the rubber. The excess felt was wrap around the outside. Very important to get right for function.

Do you have the bottoms of the window? The part the regulator goes into?

Email me directly at 68C@comcast.net for gross details.
You can also find more info at Bob's cabriolet forum. You will have to open up your preferences to go back like 6 years. I have posted considerable material on the subject.
I do not believe you will find any info in the Cabriolet club back issues.

Paul,
The main issue was associated with a worn sector gear shaft. There was too much play between the shaft and the bearings which translated directly to the wheel. A new sector gear that measured out at 1.124 did the trick. The cone was missing from the eccentric nut housing and I had the wrong lock nuts which was the source of the leak. The box is leak free and tight now. The car handles so much better. Thanks for everyone's help here

Actually, for pictures and reference materials go to this link.

Thanks Jason. I have that book. It shows the parts but it's not clear if that's all of them or how it all goes together.

Thanks Kevin. I don't have anything except the regulators. In fact I also need to find the hardware for the interior door handles. I will go back on the Cab forum. Is there a search function? I don't see one.

I have recently finished a 68c and have some window parts email me at mpetro1@comcast.net and i will try to help you out

Thanks Mike. e-mail on it's way. You did a fantastic job on your car. It is stunning!

There is a search function on Bob's site.

I go into preferences and make it show me all posts back to the beginning. Then I use the search function in my browser.

Finding the bottoms to the window frames is tough. If you know what your are looking for you could make something up from slant window fordor window bottoms. I have extra window frames that would need extensive work to be repaired. Someone had sent their bad frames (like mine) to a plater and the plater fixed them. I used them to make copies. I bought a whole rusty body just to get the window bottoms and the door garnish molding.

I used the U channels Larry from the Cabriolet club had made up for the 68A/B. They are not dimensionally correct for the 68C, but close enough. Getting correct square U channels are not easy, they are not trivial to make. The ones he got were decent. Someone had looked into making them out of stainless, but I do not believe that happened.
The 68C is different from the A/B in that the earlier ones are screwed together and the C's are welded. I made a jig and TIG welded the pieces I got from Larry. Not very hard to do in looking back at what I did.
I have pictures of stuff but I need your regular email to send them to you.

Do you have the window stops on your door. They go on the inside face of the door near the door latch. BTW, the door latches are modified slant window fordor latches. They have an area ground out for clearance of the window frame. The chrome piece that goes at the top of the door is NOT the stop, it is decorative on the C.

Plus the top limit which screws to the inside face of the door near the latch.

That is a simple piece that could be made from thicker flat steel.

No that is the upper screw for the rear window channel. Should be a flat head counter sunk machine screw.

Interesting, someone covered the door garnish molding in fake leather. Originally they were wood grained paint. Is that rubber on top the rear door post where the #1 bow would meet the post?
