Position of Model A Rotor to Contact Points

In timing my '30 Tudor, I read the Les Andrews book, pp. 2-18 to 2-19, as well as other instructions online. What is still unclear to me, and maybe it's not addressed because it's so basic, is the horizontal position of the rotor contact to the distributor body contact points. My rotor's contact arm travels about 1/8th inch below the distributor body contact points. The car runs pretty well despite this. Should I carefully bend up the rotor contact arm to exactly meet the contact points on the distributor body? I realize that the gap should be .025". Thanks for any assistance.

Best regards,

You say the car runs pretty good, If it starts good, and idles good, and your happy with the way runs,... Dont fix it. ;)

Someone in a previous post said to hold the contact with one pair of pliers while you bend the contact with another pair of pliers. I tried that and it worked fine. Be careful not to loosen the rivit.

Thanks again for the advice. I bent the rotor contact up with a large crescent wrench, being careful not to ruin the rivet. It made the rotor contacts more or less on a horizontal parallel with the distributor body contacts. While I thought that the car ran pretty well before, the engine idles more quietly now. This experience supports the philosophy of making any improvements that one is capable of making, especially when it doesn't cost anything other than some time. I consider the time spent as free therapy.

I started reading the forums on this website a few weeks ago, and have benefitted greatly from the wealth of collective wisdom generously offered by you all. Here's three cheers for those of you who contribute your time and advice.

Now I'm on to tinkering with the Trico vacuum wiper that doesn't work. I'll start reading whatever you all have offered on that topic!
