Hi guys,
Im new to this forum and I was wondering if any of you in Texas know of a good flathead experienced machine shop, I just purchased a flatty out of a 51 pickup. I really think i got lucky with this one, i started to tear it down yesterday and everything seems to be new, machine marks in cylinders and no carbon on pitons or valves. Number to and three intake vales are stuck so im gonna tear it down and get it magnafluxed. Thanks for any info

The best resource for information on these old Fords would be to contact a member of the Early Ford V8 Club of America in your area. Most of these folks have been there, done that.

I'll PM you with my telephone number and I can point you to a machine shop on the NW side if you need it. However, from what you describe, I'm not sure you do. I think we could run a pressure test of the block without dis-assembly of the block's rotating parts. (I might ask for a donation to help me pay for the Speedway pressure test kit I bought.) If it passes that test, you could just fix the problem valves and button it up.

There is a guy here in Stephenville they say is prety good with them. When I get to my motor thats who I will use.

I've heard that Long's Machine does flathead work there on the south west side off of Somerset Rd. Who is up on the north west side Lou? I'm going to be taking a block in for work before too god awful long and always like to know the best places. I worked with a guy way over on the far west side years ago but I don't think that guy has been around for quite a while.

Kerby, I heard recently that Mr. Long had died. The shop continues but I'm not sure how much flathead expertise remains. I use Miller's Machine Shop on Grissom and work with Wayne. He's the type who refused to put in hardened seats for me because he said I did not need them. I like someone who has the integrity to refuse to do work that he does not consider necessary even though a customer is insisting on it.
