Hood Latchs

Has anyone installed the rubber bumpers around the hood latchs without removing the rivit at the bottom. I don't really want to remove this rivit because they are powder coated and have concern of goofing them up with drilling. I have tried heating them (the rubber that is) with a heat gun to try and stretch them to no avail.

Thanks for your time.

I can't believe that I had only one response to my post. Hasn't anyone else ever installed these rubber bumpers on the hood latchs?
Thanks again for your time.

I`m not fallowing you are you talking the rubber bumpers on the hood under the latches, I have a C clamp made for setting them rivet,

Most Model A owners probably do not see the need for them, if the hooks are latching hard enough. To my knowlege, they were not original equipment. Try using brake fluid, or dishwasher soap as a lubricant.

To JW Hash Bob C has the right idea with the illustration from Brattons. Luke Dahlinger I do intend to put the rubber bumper in the center behind the hood. I don't understand what you meant by "rubber bumper on the hood".
I want to say THANKS to ALL for the thoughts and info.

Thanks again for your time,

Well Bob C, between you and Luke Dahlinger I have learned something today. I was not aware that a rubber hood latch bumper was installed on the hood. Thanks for the education today.

Thaks as always,

And with care the hood rubber bumpers can be installed with the hood in place. Use a heavy steel hammer for the backup and have a good acurate swing when hitting the rivet.

Were not the center bumpers, behind the hood only on 31"s. When I replaced mine on the hood used small mach screws and ny-lock nuts, painted black. With hood closed you can't tell not a rivit.

the round rubber hood bumpers were install with hollow rivets I have a C clamp made for Tonka toys to set them rivet instead of a hammer and setting tool,

JW Hash can you post a picture of that C clamp or is it just a typical C clamp?
Thanks for lyour time.

my bumpers were 1/2 gone. I cut the rivets off with a pair of wire cutters and installed the new ones using a standard hand riverter rather that the ones that come with the kit which need to be peened over. This is impossible to do with the hood on. Prior posts talked about taking off the hood. Way to much work. Just hand rivet and touch up with black paint if you are going for points
