Since I don't know jack squat about real engineering, I tend to overbuild. I also have found my welding skills are better when I'm making my parts from heavy metal, like my favorite 1/4" x 1 1/2" strap. My wife took 3 years of welding in high school and I've been known to hide my poorer welds if I see her heading down to the shop. She won't even try my new fangled mig welder and says she might get back into it if I buy here a 'real' welder. Sheesh. The bike? Yes, it's way too heavy, but it looks kinda cool, and sounds kinda cool, and isn't that what tinkering with all this old scrap metal is really about? :) :)
