B manifold boss — what is it?

My buddy has a B manifold. It has a threaded boss in the front of the manifold. Opposite of the firewall.
It’s a through hole with a large size bowl that looks to be a three-quarter inch bolt head

What is this for and why is it there?

There was also a spot on the left side of early B blocks for where it would mount.
