34 gas gauge cleaning?

The old dried fluid in my ‘34 gas gauge has not dissolved using alcohol, lacquer thinner, or chlorex mixture so far. Now trying acetone. Any ideas what may work are appreciated.

We have had numerous instances where a clogged hydrostatic fuel gauge could not be cleared through the use of chemical(s) and required much more invasive efforts to rebuild.

After a couple of days with acetone the gauge would pass the red fluid and go up a ways with the “tap, tap, tap and hold” test. But doesn’t seem to register much in the car. At least I still have my trusty measuring stick.

Clearing the gauge head is only a portion of getting the system functioning correctly. The gauge, the airline with fittings and the sending unit must each essentially be in perfect condition for the system to function as intended. Lots of damage is attributable to the over-tightening of the airline ferrules which in a fully serviced system need only be hand snug - a common issue is that if the system stops functioning people will crank down on the airline ferrules and then they create much larger problems that are more difficult to address.

If you feel that your components are not in need of service/repair, then perhaps you simply need to calibrate the gauge (see attached)
