Just did the Tubman hood lift modification on the ‘49 Ford.
Took me about 45 minutes because I'm slow but what a great modification for anyone that owns a shoe box.
Rounding up the necessary bolts and nuts at the hardware store took more time than the actual installation.
Again, thank you Denny so much for your idea.

I'm glad it worked out for you. It corrects a serious deficiency Ford made with the "shoebox" series.
 
Thank goodness for guys like Tubman - willing to share his experiences.
Be sure and post plenty of photos with explanations so others will have a great resource.
 
Denny, Gene, and others, have a picture of the correct assembly of the shoulder bolt and wavy washer? That also is critical to the hood opening on shoeboxes and earlier Fords.

Ref woodies, the upper tail gate struts can be replaced with gas struts. Use the stock ends where they attach to the tail gate and interior
 
Here ya go guys
(4) 1/4"SAEx3/4” bolts and serrated flange nuts.
(2) 5/15 nylock nut and (2) washers
Hood is a 1 hand deal. Centers perfectly vs the old hassle always having to be careful.

Baby girl at 17, high school jock/softball. High school graduation photo. She drove the car to the next town over for the photos. Girl had way too much fun with that car.
She’s 51 now and still looks the same. Got her mother's genes I guess.

Gene, It looks like there is quite a difference between the hood hinges on a '49 and a '51. I'm glad it worked out for you. If I remember correctly, the hood hinges were one of the changes that made the '50 Ford "better in 50 ways".
 
Ya, the ’49 hinge system was horrible compared to the ’50. Your mod made it so much better. I’m starting to look at the trunk.
