Finishing up valve adjustment and tripped, left foot under lift ramp and crashed over to my left holding the generator. I had large towels over the fenders but generator hit where not covered, just. Bummed out ....

The black paint, including primer is now scraped. Total damage about 1-1/2" long. It is not dented, thank you.

Looking for repair tips including paint to use please. Kube??

A story told by Tex Smith (Hot Rod Magazine editor fame) was when he was a kid (1930's Oklahoma) hanging out in his dad's body shop, there was an "old" german guy who specialized in scratches and minor dings. He would ding out any dent sand out the damage with fine sandpaper, then retrieve a special brush from a locked box in a locked toolbox. Very carefully not to leave ridges he would paint over the blemish without leaving ridges. Then allow to dry, color sand until smooth, then polish. Happy customer and happy shop with half the labor of what other painters could do.

I have fund that if you dab paint on top of the scratch, let it dry and then repeat this process enough times so that the paint fills the scratch, you can use 800 wet dry to sand it down flush with the original paint. Then polish. This take a lot of time as the paint must really dry well.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Yes, I'll look for touch up paint but don't think I'll find one stage black that will match but I do plan to look. I'd prefer to do this with a "magic brush" instead of spray :-). It's been years since I've done spraying however. I do have a good touch up sprayer along with full size too.

Looking for single stage gloss black used for fenders in a half pint can or a touch up bottle.

I did check https://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/ford/1940/all-models/ but no black or much of anything else. Search there only shows:

1722, M1722A Vermillion
Omaha Orange

Really!??

Just been one of those days, this part of it. Tomorrow will be better.

Testor's black model car paint in the tiny bottles worked pretty good to touch up some rock chips in black lacquer for me long ago. Filled them up a bit at a time with a tiny artist's (not magic) brush.

Not to discourage you BUT be aware that there are many shades of black out there. For
instance every once in a while when I used to show my 32 5Win someone would ask if
my fenders were black or brown. Back before PPG totally eliminated the ability to buy
Concept single stage urethane there were 7 different blacks offered.

Yes, exactly my concern. I'm sure others here are thinking, "hey it's black" but I've run into this in the past when my '40 was solid black. Like you, touch up paints were brown shaded.

This is what I'm after in a 1 or 2oz bottle with brush:

9300 Gloss Black (PPG color code is DCC 9300)

There is an older English gentleman on Instagram and his company is called Paintman. He posts videos of him brush painting all sorts of cars and trains to a mirror like finish. He sells his own line of paint as well.

Here is a link to his business site.

May be worth checking out. If you've seen his results, it's very impressive. I'm thinking he may have different shades of black that could work for you.

Thanks it looks like a good site

How close to an Oreillys are you? They have scanned my paint and custom mixed a very close match.

I used some Centari "coal black" years ago which matched Ford's Raven black fairly well. I too have used Testers model paint....just say'n. Tiny brush.

Have you tried to contact PPG Refinish to ask for a local supplier in your area? I have been able to get as little as 1/2 pint mixed by my supplier when I was trying to match a Ford blue, it was about $30, but hardener and reducer is extra. They may be able to put it in a spray can for you, as mine does. I used PPG #9300 in their Shop Line urethane product for my fenders.

No I haven’t looked into that. I may get a spray can but presently trying touch up bottle with brush. I got a bottle and for a small test, color is good, larger area, who knows.

After I cleaned the area well yesterday, I found that it was dented. I fixed it well. In middle of life's other adventures now however.
