I’ve been casually looking for a new project for a few months. My main requirement is that it be powered by a flathead. During my search, I came across a 1950 mild custom coupe on Craig’s list. It was said to be the project of a family member that had died. Car was solid, body work was done but looked like it was either still in primer or had a matte paint job. Bumpers were missing, interior was rough but everything was there and the ad said it ran/drove. It had been listed for a while with the pricing being dropped a couple of times. A week and a half ago I send a message to the seller via Craig’s list. No response. A few days later I reach out again and get a response. The guy doesn’t know much about the car as it was his grandfather’s but would be happy to show it. We set up an appointment, which he ended up pushing out a couple of times with various excuses. Finally set another time for Saturday morning. I get to the meeting place, which is 30 minutes away, and the address he provided doesn’t exist. The location is clearly the place where the pictures of the car were taken but there is no guy and no car. I give him a call and send a text. No response. I wait a while before giving up and heading home. An hour and a half later I get a message from the guy that he missed the appointment because he was in a car accident. He asks if I found the car. I tell him no and that was the last I heard from him. The guy put in too much effort to simply get some giggles by wasting my time. I’m guessing he was running some kind of scam but can’t figure out what it was.
